idling kinda high

Post by orangelmo »

hey all, just wondering what possible reasons would make my car idle a bit high. usually it would sit just under 1k but lately its been fluctuating between 1.5 and 2. last couple things done to it was just an oil change and changed the thermostat. also there's a CEL, but i think it was due to the oil change (so i think). any suggestions would be helpful thanks

Never seen a CEL from an oil change before.

The CEL may be from what ever it is that is causing the idle to be high.

i was kinda late on the oil change, thats why i was thinking it was the cause - running low on oil . but it was idling fine before the change, so its kinda got me thinking at this point

Thinking? Oh no, don't do that! You'll get everyone involved in trouble! LOL
:P

Anyway, low oil could cause a CEL, as can not changing it frequently enough.

Mines been doing it to, but only happened since i messed with the acceleration cord, tightened the idle on it to get higher off the line performance.

usually idles at 900rpm, tuned it for 1200rpm but it sometimes fluctuates to 1500 - 17000, i guess i need to oil the cable.

Check your accelerator pedal cable.
Check your idling speed motor and clean it if needed.
Check your vacuum lines.
Check your TPS sensor.
Get the car scanned to see what DTC you got.

Late oil change will not trigger a CEL... OK if you are too late and the engine was hurt due to that; your engine will be FUBAR that you won't need a CEL to know it is hurt.

I was having this problem today when driving to the city, engine would idle at 1500rpm, found it to be the accelerator cable, theres this little plastic thing on it that was pushed all the way over the pully, thus wouldnt let it retract far enough, pulled it back and it was just fine

Give it a try :)

also get it OBD scanned to see the fault code the ECU generated.
