Got a random question for you: how many times have you changed your timing belt knowing that you have super high miles?BosnianLanos wrote:I had 150K miles on mine when I took it off and I didn't have near the amount of buildup as yours.
Why do you think yours was so messed up?
@ WooHoo: Wow, that is pretty nasty...
when i bought the car i looked into the oil filling cap and it looked like it had some build up but i didnt know it was this bad.. .i even ran engine cleaner through it after every oil change..
what do you guys think i should do?? rebuild?? it doesnt come off unless it soaks in cleaner and then you use some elbo greas

WooHoo: I don't think that just that is worth a rebuild, however, dirty valve cover could equal dirty sh*t on the internals. Maybe the buildup is just up there because the air from the breather mixed with oil vapor and made carbon buildup. Maybe the people before you punished your car.
AcingTeam: As far as I recall, I have changed the timing belt only once, at like 100,000+ miles, and even then it was in good condition. It is time once again to change the belt.

no need to rebuild for that... OK it looks nasty but not fatal.
it is a good idea to use engine flush though... preventing things from getting really bad.

Be very careful using engine flush on a really dirty engine. The LAST thing you want to do is get all of that gunk loosened up and circulating. Chunky style oil can plug up oil passages and score bearings. It's better to just do frequent oil changes and let the fresh detergent package take care of things a little at a time.mmamdouh wrote:no need to rebuild for that... OK it looks nasty but not fatal.
