I am not too sure about the 1.5L, but to be safe, the 1.6L should be changed before 60,000 miles or 95,000 km.

It is better to change it early than to wait too long and get severe engine damage.

i got the same engine and i replace mine every 40,000 Kms... OK that seems like too little K's for the belt but it is better to be safe than sorry. bare in mind that the 1.5 SOHC (with compression ratio 9.5:1) is an interference engine so if the belt snaps you can kiss your valves good bye.

interference engine is an engine with no clearance between the valve when it is open and a pistion when it is at TDC.

in such engines if a timing belt snaps the pistons will keep on ging up and down whereas the valves ar at a halt so the piston(s) will hit any open valve(v) and bend them.
