im buying a 99 lanos with 40k miles for 1500 usd, is that a good deal is has nothing wrong with it except the roof needs to be painted, but it emits an oil burning smell from the engine, is this a common problem with daewoos?

The Lanos has the A16DMS engine. 1.6 Liter, 16 Valves, "E-TEC", VGIS, and all those goodies. Not too many performance parts but a solid little engine.
The T20SED I think is the Nubira's 2.0 Liter.
As for the oil burning, @ only 40, 000 Miles it could mean a few things.
1. The previous owner rarely changed the oil, and the car is now feeling the reprocussions.
2. The previous owner drove it like a madman and blew a piston ring, and you could actually be buring oil (highly unlikely).
3. Either the breather hose is loose or pierced and the gases from the camshaft cover (smell like burning oil) are escaping into the engine bay.
However, at such low mileage, I doubt it is anything serious, but just to be sure, before completing the sale, take it to a good mechanic to have him check the car out.

Well...... I wouldn't say that about performance parts...... there are actually as many or more for the 1.6L as there is for the 2.0L.
Once all the 2.0L stuff available I'm sure Tom (360D) will start looking at importing 1.6L peformance parts.
I've allways considered the 2.0L swap the best bang for you buck upgrade but there are lots of people out there that simply don't have the time for such a time consuming upgrade.

if this motor blows up on me too soon, what other motors can go in this car a cavilier motor? but the motor emits the smell, not the exhast, the owner said its a recall and i just have to take a trip to tallahassee for some reason to get it fixed for free, i dont know, oh yea the interrior doorlocks dont work, they had complete morons repo'in it from the original owner thats why the a-pillars are chipped and need painting, but ive decided to buy it, ill have it the 7th woohoo!!!!!!

There are several engines that will fit but the easiest and cheapest is the C20GET which is an 8V factory turbocharged engine making 165hp and 175lb ft without an intercooler.
With the addition of an intercooler and an increase in boost from 7psi to 10psi the car will probably make around 200hp at the crank and about 210 lb ft of torque.
Needless to say..... you can imagine that doubling the torque will make the car very very fast.
To get 200hp out of a 1.6L would take a great deal of work..... I would have to think that it would need a turbo or NOS to make that much power.... it wouldn't be impossible to do it as an "all motor" setup but I can imagine that it would take lots of money and make the engine idle like crap. (due to the need for agressive camshafts)
