Well, the rule of a thumb would be to replace them after 100K km. They are basically a molded rubber, which after time will become softer and will start breaking.

If you want to check the mount, have an assistant attempt to move the engine...it should barely move by hand. If its moving quite easily, mounts are gone.

Should you decide to replace the mounts, may I suggest filling the empty gaps in the rubber with a stiff poluerathene silicone-type of a compound.

And by all means let me know if you need new engine mounts.

thanks for the help man... BTW about filling the mounts issue, Chad was filling his mounts with some sort of gasket maker stuff... is that what you mentioned here?

And if the answer is yes, how can it help make the mounts stiffer?? the gasket stuff itself is so flexable, please elaborate.

thanks for the help Tom i really appreciate it.

Use black high temp RTV gasket maker. It's not "that" flexible. Besides, when you look at the motor mounts you will see how it can make a difference.

Don't use the silicone, it gets hot and squeezes out.

I'm telling you, you can do all three mounts with two tubes of gasket maker. For an $8 modification, it's amazing. If you don't believe me try doing just the mount by the battery first. It should take you less than an hour start to finish and you will dramatically decrease the torque steer. Doing the tranny mount felt like I put a shift kit in it.
