2000 Lanos Heat Problem

Post by Qtgrl8369 »

Ok well i just got my camshaft fixed, new thermostat in...and now my freaking defroster for my front windshield no longer works. When i turn the defroster on it only blows heat on from where it should be when the Heat is on! and the options of to the feet or head for heat...welll i only get the option for the head. So its winter here now and I have to scrape the frost off my windshield and yes leave the window cracked open when it rains or snows because its the only way it defrosts my windshield. The men in my life are useless and I wouldnt know where to begin lookin for this problem and the nearest daewoo dealer is 2 hours away...so im hoping you guys can help me...so i can fix this thing my damn self!! HELP IN BOSTON!!!

hey QT,
This is a common problem. There is a cable that goes from the back of that level switch down to a white plastic selector thing-a-magig. You can move the white plastic thing so that it blows out the defrost. It is located under the drivers side dash on the right side. The cable to replace it costs abotu $12 and it takes about 30 minutes to replace. Hope this helps.

Qtgrl8369 you are still lucky. My engine is not heating anymore and it is -30 C here. I just don't take the care till I find the problem. Probably thermostat. BTW anyone know if changing the thermostat on a 1.5 is easy and if I can get a thermostat easly?

if you have an 8 valve 1.5 engine then the thermostat replacment is far from easy.

practically you will almost go throught the same routin as in a timing belt replacment as the thermostate is located behind the timing belt case... better leave it to a mechanic.

as for the non heating up that you suffer from... try to block part of the radiator to restrict air flow into it, i personally recomend against that but it has worked for people with thermostate issues that couldn't warm up their engines.

i had this problem on my car too but i didn't replace the cables... instead i super glued the broken pastic tips back on the cables and installed them and they are working fine now so all you need is super glue and you are done.

if you need instructions on how to take the dash off, just ask.
