How do I.... Replace a cylinder head gasket.
It's been 2 weeks and the guys supposed to fix my car haven't even looked at it. I kind of need it and no one around here is really even attempting to fix it so... is it something with proper instruction that I could do or is it necesary for a mechanic... and if i could do it... could someone do a step by step?

Its is not hard with proper tools, but rather time consuming. The crucial part is to have the head machined, and the block clean. Then the positions of the camshafts must be precise, otherwise you will bent the valves.
What is the most complicated engine job you have done so far?

Can you email that scan to me? I would like to put it up on my website to help out future Daewoo Lanos head removers such as myself.

Why, you use a torque wrench, of course!KnightWalace wrote:how do i know exactly how much torque i'm applying?

$16.99 at your friendly neighborhood Harbor Freight tool store.

I'm sure you can get one at another local tool store, but you will probably pay more for a wrench like this.
Perhaps you know someone with a good stock of tools that will lend one to you?

And you may need angle torque gauge too, like this one: http://www.daewootech.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1222 (I dont remember if you need one for the Lanos 1.6)
And if you need a headgasket, you should know by now where to get it from
And you can do it, just take it easy, and if you have a digital camera, take pictures of all components b4 disassembly. You may also want to mark all the parts, as they will add up at the end, and it would be a good idea to know where did every bolt came from.
You should schedule 2 days for the first-time headgasket removal, and do have the cylinder head machined, if you can.

Another idea: some people like to use plastic bags and number/label each bag as they remove each set of nuts or bolts from something.
As each set of parts comes off, it can be put back on in the reverse order because each labeled bag has been numbered.
The digital camera is a good idea, too. Get a pic after each section has been removed. You can see how things came apart step by step so you know how they should look when you are putting it back together.
Good luck, as as always, we'll try to help as much as we can.

Hey, here is another reason why you should use the digi cam - this way, once you are done and running (and you will be), you will have an excellent write-up for the head gasket replacement
Take the pics, ask questions and let us know before u start, so we can do a checklist. We'll help you as much as we can.
