Plug Wire Probs!

Post by Smccrory »

I just got a new set of OEM spark plug wires from Deawoo, it fixed my check engine light, but after 5 min. of driving, it came back on, and my car was sputtering (2000 Daewoo Lanos, 47,000) I looked under the hood, and, to my shock, the part that goes into the cylinder head was 2-3in out!! This happens continually, can anyone help? My car is trying to run off 1 cylinder after about 10 min of driving, b/c the wires keep coming out!
I know they are in right when I put them in, they *click* just fine...

It sounds like maybe you aren't snapping the plug wire connections on firmly enough for them to grip the top of the spark plug.

I have seen in some cars that attaching the plug wires is not easy and can take quite a lot of effort to make them snap into place.

Try this and see if you can feel a more positive connection.

I have done that a number of times, as I said before, they are plugged in fine, they just pop out.

Duct tape!! LOL

Maybe the connecters in the ends of the wires need to be squeezed with pliars so they grip the tips of the plugs more tightly.

Are the tips of the spark plugs screwed on? Some plugs have removable tips.

I'm just trying to think what might be wrong.
