running on 3 cyl?

Post by geoblade »

hey guys,

my nexia 1.5 8v has got a new issue. since last week it has started to run irregularly.

after a cold start it starts off ok, but occasionally, after about 3-4 minutes of driving, it starts to run very irregular. almost looks like running on 3 cylinders.

BUT.

then, after being bumpy and grumpy for 5 minutes tops, it runs great again.

has anyone got an idea what it could be? weird thing is: sometimes it does this, but a lot of times it just runs great.

my idea is somewhere in the ignition? or damp air in the aircleaner?
(basically, i've got no clue whatsoever)

check your coil pack and spark plug wires

how old are your spark plugs?

for the cables... you need a muti meter to check the resistance of all 4 cables... if the readings are very inconsistency then the cables need replacement

for the coil pack you need to unplug the spark plug wires while the engine is running and check for the strength and consistency of the spark...

note that the spark is very very strong and you should exert extreme caution during doing this test... always keep the cable no further than 1 cm from the coil pack port and watch out when you yank the cable off the coil pack as probably your hand will go very far and sparks will be firing everywhere and might hit your hand

if the spark from one or more ports is weak then the coil pack is defective

don't they make a tool you can loop around the outside of the wires to measure the voltage going through the wire? i have been shocked pulling off wires, and while they may say the amperage kills, not the voltage, the voltage still scares the crap out of you!!
