engine cuts off

i 've a serious problem with my lanos 2001 1.5
it cutts off when its on idle, the RPM gets getting lower till its cut off when i dont increase the throttle
and the speed meter is not working, past it was not working perfectly . but now its not working @ all
and the check engine light went on for a short time.
plz help in this problem

Did you check the code for the check engine light? that might be a good and easy start?

i solved half the problem, i found the speed meter socket form the engine the ground wire was not conducting i solved it, and the speed meter returns to work and the check engine light went off for ever.
the 2nd problem which i cant solve it, is the RPM the engine goes down until it cuts off , i think that it may be the idle but i need to be asured
