new thoughts for a stock lanos 2000 hatch

Post by lanosguy »

Hi, I wasn't sure where to post this as it covers a range of things, but anyways...here goes:
Has anyone got any ideas on any of these (for the 2000, hatch, manual, lanos) -

1. Turbo components/kits/whatever - and can the stock engine (1.4l) take it?
2. Electric (or power) windows
3. Good gear stick knobs (and how to get the original off!!!)
4. Good aluminium pedals
5. Dump valve

I was thinking about more of where to buy them than anything else...I live in the UK...I am especially interested in the turbo and dump valve.

thanks

I'm sure you can find anything on this forum if you look for it...

Many of us have the 1.6L DOHC or the 1.5L SOHC so I'm afraid most won't be able to help you much as far as telling you what your 1.4L engine can handle.

As far as #1.... most guys are in the process of doing custom turbo setups.

#2... doesn't the Lanos come with power windows in your country?
For most of us it was an option so you can pull the power windows off a wrecked Lanos.

#4.... not sure if anyone has done much with the pedals.... I would imagine a generic aftermarket pedal would work.

#5.... I'm assuming your talking about a dump valve for the turbo.... again it's a matter of purchasing a generic part and custom fitting it for use in your car

thanks erfinder, I did notice a lack of info about the 1.4 at this site, lol. Here in the UK, the standard comes with -

no sunroof
manual windows
tape player

The next stage up comes with -

manual sunroof
manual windows
tape player

The one after that (I have this one)-

electric sunroof
manual windows
tape player

Then the best of the best has -

electric sunroof
electric windows
cd player
A/C thing

I thought that this was standard in all countries, but obviously not...u are all lucky :)...I am also a student just left college, so cash is a problem at the moment, lol

Thanks again

anyone got a 1.4 by any chance?

by 1.4 you mean the 1349cc?

if so i dotn think you will find much people whit that engine specialy not on here most are US wich have the 1.6 almost standerd lol :p

but i would really consider a engine swap if i was you... the 1.4 really doesnt have any power so start whit so a turbo is a waste i think :s pop a 1.6 in or a 2.0 :)

you're in the UK?????

Well my dear friend... start saving for a C20XE or a LET engine (from Vauxhall Astra/Calibra/Vectra) wich fits like a glove....

same for the suspensions...

All the 2.0L family engines will go into a Lanos without a problem (no mounting modifications) but the main issue is the electrical work since you have to change your wiring harness and ECU to be compatible with the 2.0L engines.

The transmission ( D16 ) will mount up no problem but it's questionable how much power can be put through it before it starts having problems.

Stefan said he thought the last two numbers stood for the amount of Torque the engine could handle.... F20 = 200lb-ft.... F28 = 280lb-ft.

This would make the F16/D16 tranny able to withstand 160 lb-ft of torque.

If this relationship is true then you also have to remember that Getrag (the transmission manufacturer) is going to set that rating such that the transmission lasts a long long time.

I thought GSiTurbo was dumping 240 lb-ft into his F16 in his LeMans (without a limited slip).... perhaps he will comment on his power levels.

Who knows it's actual limit.... I'd like to pull one from a scrap yard and try to snap it (once I have my engine together) just to see what the actual power limit is.

It seems that you havent been reading old threads right?

Like Erfinder said all the 2.0 family fits the lanos with no mounting modifications...

Erfinder: from what i've read thats just a tought... Stef also said that he's not 100% sure... the perfect example is Gsiturbo... 240lb-ft into his F16! Ok the F20/D20 being stronger could last more... but we cant underestimate it...
