Is this just a spoof or not?

that's not even motor-driven... it spins from passing air as the engine sucks it in.

thats why its just as funny as the electric turbo....I think you can sell anything on ebay now for car performanceRodd1s wrote:that's not even motor-driven... it spins from passing air as the engine sucks it in.
Next think you knw someone will have a wing that will be dyno proven for 100hp gain

The electric air charger is a real thing, it's just that you need about 8hp to make it function.
Most of what you see is crap.... little 75W ( 0.1hp ) motors driving a pathetic excuse for a compressor at 1/100 the speed required to make boost.
I thought about building a real one with a Lithium battery pack, it would be good for 20 seconds of boost.... then you would have to wait for the battery pack to recharge.
At 52Aand 14.2V you can produce about 1 horsepower.
So if it takes 20 seconds to discharge at 8hp ( just under 6000W ) then it would take you 160 seconds to recharge the battery pack.
So for every 20 seconds of boost you would need about 3 minutes to recharge.
This would be just like nitrous, you get a quick shot of power..... and you would have to use it with a "wet" system just like a nitrous.
The cool thing is that you could make the boost a constant pressure ( say 14psi )so the fuel requirements would be easier to calculate since it's based upon RPM.
The cost of such a system would easily be more than $4000 since the components are not exactly "cheap".... especially a compact 8hp motor.

Re: Small Turbine in Intake
Motor wise this is what you'd have to be useing.... http://www.cloudelectric.com/product_p/mo-me-0709.htm
This thing weighs in at 38lbs.... then you would need a gear system to bring the RPM up from 3600RPM to something closer to 100,000 RPM so it would have to use specialized bearings ( ceramic ).... then you would need a standard compressor housing/wheel from a turbocharger and connected it to the gearbox.
Then you would need a voltage controller to adjust the voltage to give the desired boost levels.
Need more flow.... change the housing/wheel.... it's just that simple.
One such as myself could integrate a fuel injector into the assembly and control everything via microcontroller.

^U sir have too much time on ur hands.
ricer mods are awesome.
One simple rule to go by when modifying your car with parts from such sites as Ebay, if it sounds too good to be true-it is.

Re: Small Turbine in Intake
I bought almost everything for my car off ebay but quality parts for a good price and hours of searching 4 different types of ebay and out of my 77 rating I only had 1 problem and that was from flo-flex they sent me the wrong rear bushing and the wrong steering rack bushing
2.0 engine swap in the works

Well yeh u can find good stuff, but im talking like, "daewoo performance chip that will give you 100 hp and 100 mpg for only 9.95 plus 5$ shipping" and the likes.Rodd1s wrote:well u say that about ebay... if it sounds too good to be true... it probly is, well my exhaust backbox sounded too good to be true at £20 for a brand new stainless 3.5" exhaust but it was true! and good!mikedudley17 wrote:^U sir have too much time on ur hands.
