Slow Starter Puzzle

Post by newTotheWoo »

Hello all, My Leganza suffered a power steering hose leak that gave me a scare- but after securing the part it was a pretty simple fix.

Now I have a new problem- er, opportunity. The starter is slow to engage. Turn the key, a slight hesitation, then it cranks up and starts. I have cleaned the battery contacts and as many other contacts as I can reach. The battery is good I guess. I did charge it and it did not make a lot of difference. The starter a day or so ago, refused to work after an extended drive- 3 hours. Stopped for gas, then no start. After 10 or so mins, it started up.

Does this sound like a new starter is in order? What kind of job is it? Difficult? Where to obtain the starter? Is there a GM equivalent starter available? Any advice is appreciated.

I would fisrt test the small wire on the starter (From contact/relay) for 12V as soon as you cranck. If 12V is not delayed you have probably a defective starter or bad contact on wire coming from battery.
