Lanos 1999 - will run with near empty fuel tank, full dies

Post by leibhold »

Strange.
Have a Lanos 1999 - got it second hand - took for test run all ok - very low on fuel.
Took it away. ran ok - then I put petrol in tank - not must and it started to play up.
After much testing, found that if the tank is near empty - it runs ok.
Fill the tank and it dies, stall, no revs.
Various levels in tank are low - ok - medium worse, full tnaks really bad.

Any ideas ?

Maybe your fuel cap don't let air entering tank anymore. When problem is present slightly unscrew cap and try.

hi have you tried removing the fuel pump if it is in the tank try having a look to see if you have any air leaks in the pump and body attachment (that is if the pump is inside the tank on the lanos you should be able to pull up the back seat and find the cover if not in your hatch maybe remove the split fold seats?) so just replace the rubber conections if you think that are faulty if in doubt chuck them out lol

Fixed - now runs like a mean machine !!

There was a large dent on the base of the fuel tank, knocked that out an was able to get fuel pump out. Seal inside fuel pump housing where the pump connects to the fuel line was cracked. Fixed that.

Now I have full pressure and no stalling, shuddering, loss of power and no O2 sensor toggle faults...

Now I am going to drive up and down the street reving - in front of the house of the guy who sold it to me
