I recently loosened my timing belt by hand but want to tighten it well with a tool. There are no tools in my posession that will fit behind the coolant pump and adjust the tensioner. I have a diagram that says to use a timing belt tensioner J-42492 but am not sure what that is. I think it is like a "crows foot". (An open-ended wrench with a fitting for a ratchet to rotate it.)
Has anyone had to tighten the tensioner and if so what tool did you use? I don't know if its possible to tighten it with anything else due to the lack of space behind the tensioner. thanks!

What I just did recently on my Lanos (replaced water pump, tensioner, timining belt) was to leave the water pump bolts loose. I set the parts alignment and released tension on the tensioner. Turned out I needed more. I locked the tensioner back in place and and that point I was able to turn the water pump by hand. Got everything right at 3rd attempt, without the use of 42mm special wrench tool. Hope this helps.
