oversized rod bearings?

Post by zack »

Hi. I've looked all over the internet and called a few car dealerships but I can't find anyone who sells oversize rod bearings for the lanos 1.6/ aveo. Have any of you guys found them anywhere before? Thanks.

have you tried ebay? I know it sounds like a bad place to get them but if you can find ACL's than buy those. I'm not sure if the lemans bearings are the same. I have a 1.6 from both now so I should be able to look into that soon. I don't see why they would be different.

Lemans?

Post by nubira88 »

So what is lemans motor i take it it is similar to the 1.5 SOHC lanos motor?..... i was looking at a headgasket on ebay for a lanos 1.6 DOHC and it looks different to the jackets for oil and coolant in my 1.6 nubira motor. i was reading somwhere in here that these motors have very little differences but that would have to be one of the major ones as the head fron a lanos cannot be purchased for my nubira. someone corect me if im wrong. im just wondering if someone out there knows alot about our cars and knows what makes good interchange. i wouldnt mind swapping my car back to a SOHC and wondereng wether a Lemans motor known as FamII in australia wether the head would go onto my block.. the jackets look verry similar from memory to the Fam11 but the issue would be the height of the head and cambox and wether the belt would mate nice and tightly with it new found partner.. on another forum called camira community many of these people rip the brakes and other things out of nubiras and esperos and such to upgrade ther camiras also known as vauxhal cavaliar and many other names Gms J car. theres also another site called www.family2tuners.com wich has just started and they talk about cars with F2 engines no daewoos mentioned as yet. anyways i have a donor a nissan pulsar N13 (there is a link with nissan and family 2) with a 1.8 Efi to swap onto my 1.6 nubira... if it will go on without much trouble that is... well im goint to pull this pulsar apart anyways so it cant hurt to loosley swap and match eh. get back to me all tell me your thoughts... i realy dont want to be worrieing about the cost of fixing my head everytime i blow a truck on the highway

OK, topic question first, the 1.6 8v (4B1451AL) motor and 16v (4B1350) use different rod bearings but they use the same main bearings (5M1801P), the numbers here are for ACL bearings, which aparently is the best made bearings available.

if you still have trouble finding bearings, let me know and I will get them ordered for you.

as for the motor swap (at least on the OZ models), the N13 is a famII motor also know as an Opel/Vauxhall "big Block." the the 1.4/1.5/1.6 motors are know as Opel/Vaux "Small Block" and they are quite different, I don't think they ever share any parts.
that being said it has been hard finding pics of any motor other than the Camira, N13... 1.8 and 2.0. I'd like to see some pics of the 1.6 Nubira. I wouldn't be supprised to find that they simply used a smaller bore and stroke in a FamII motor in the Nubi. Post some pics and I can tell you a lot about what you will be in for.

for now I will go on the traditional info about the Big Block and Small Block. you will have no problem mounting the new motor to the old gearbox and the same with the old flywheel to the new motor. the difference will come from the motor mount to the front of the motor. I imagine that even with the 1.6 your motor bracket comes from the middle of the block. you will need a complete new motor mount if you want FamII/Big Block in the Nubi. Did any of the Daewoos available in your area come with a 2.0 or 2.2? if so, this motor mout bracket is the one you will need. if they didn't come with the 2.0/2.2 than you will need to find the same bracket from a 2.0T Astra. For that matter, why not move all the way up to a 2.0T Astra motor? look in a scrappy and see if you can find one fore cheap.

good luck, if I'm off on anything or if you have questions, feel free to ask, be sure to post pics if you can of the 1.6Nubi motor.

cheers
