1999 Lanos 1.3 engine upgrade

Post by blackielaw »

hi, I would like to upgrade my 1.3 stock engine without having to actually do an engine swap. what would you suggest? for example could I use any parts from the 1.6 Lanos engine to make mine a bit more powerful? any ideas or tips please?

hmm wich i could help ya there :s
i know you can pop a 16V head on a 1.5.. but 1.3 not that i know off... maybe drill your engine to 1.5 use the pistons from a 1.5 and put the 16V head on from a 1.5 16V (nexia)

the original 1.5 engine is the same block anyway yust drilled bigger so no real instability problems there :)

Also 1.6 parts prolly wont fit at all cuase the 1.5 and 1.6 are a totaly difrent block as far as i know the flywheel can be switched though... but genarly a 1.6 gets a 1.5 one cuase its lighter

I dont know that the lanos came in 1.3l, here the lanos 99 is 1.5 and 2k or more are 1.6l. Recomendation change the complete engine I think at the end it will be cheaper.

The Canadian Lanos Hatchback S came with a 1.5L SOHC ( A15SMS)

All other North American Lanos came with a 1.6L DOHC ( A16DMS )

In other areas like the UK/Europe I think the 1.3L was the standard engine right??

Do you know the bore and stroke of the 1.3L ???

stroke: 73.4mm
total displacement: 1349 cm3
compresion: 9.5:1

Here are the other specifications....

1.5L SOHC
Bore: 76.5mm
Stroke: 81.5mm

1.6L DOHC
Bore: 79.0mm
Stroke: 81.5mm

So the main difference between the 1.4L and 1.5L is the stroke.

The question is what is the bore/stroke of the 1.3L

dont you mean bore? anyway like i said it the same engine the 1.3 and the 1.5 engine are the same but difrent bore as its the same engine block ... so personaly i would bore it out the pop a 16V head from a racer/nexia or kadet on it

I was still talking about the 1.4L.... nobody has put up the information on the 1.3L yet.

The 1.4L has the same bore as the 1.5L (76.5mm) and the stroke is 8.1mm shorter (81.5mm vs 73.4mm).

will try to post info on the 1.3 Lanos on Monday. All 1999 Lanos here in Malta were 1.3, no other option was available way back in 2000.

ow sry about that misread something... but the 1.3 should be the 1.4 really.... its 1350 or something hence adressed as either 1.3 or 1.4

only engine version are 1.3(aka 1.4) 1.5 and 1.6 16v

you're right Wolf-Spirit, the so called 1.3 is in reality 1350 or something like that. So I might just as well refer to it as a 1.4 from now on. So one you still suggest a complete engine swap or just a rebore to use the 1.5 pistons and a 16V head? My Lanos is an 8V SOHC and I'm not an engine expert either to be honest !
