nexia cracked head gasket

Post by laurent77 »

Hello,

(I'm french) and I've got a 1997 nexia 1.5l 8s (SOHC?) GL with 40 000km

The head gasket is about to crack (liquid cooling in the oil), I would replace it with the camshaft drivebelt and water pump but but I haven't any repair manual to guide me

is this motor mounted on other cars (kadett? I don't know any 1.5l kadett but maybe the operation is the same on an Opel motor) that I can find in a repair manual?

thanks ;)

Although I've been around Nexias for years, this is one thing i've never done. As I really don't like the 1.5 nexia engines. The engines are very similar to opel engines, it has the same gearbox as an opel equivilant, an f16, and mounts the exact same as an opel small block engine. No opels came with this engine. But as i said, it's very similar.

For the money you're going to pay getting a gasket and timing belt kit [waterpump, tensioner etc] you'd probably be cheaper off buying an opel engine. Like a 1.4 16v or 1.6 16v as you can use all the original mounts, gearbox, and shafts.

But if that's not an option, the 1.5 engines are like the 8v opel engines but not the same unfortunatly. [Or else i would like them :P]

From all my experiences with Nexias, these engines really are only good for 50k miles. At least the 16v anyway. The 8v would probably pull on for a load more. 3 nexias that i've either owned or a friend has, have shit themselves at either 50 or 60k miles. They will last longer if they're kept maintained, but it's not worth it when you can get a 2.0 opel motor for as cheap as it is to fix it.

As far as the workshop manual goes, i've seen pretty much every single other daewoo workshop manual EXCEPT the Nexia. Cant find one anywhere

Well, that's what I have in my nexia lol.

If you're up for it, i seriously advise changing the motor. If you didnt know, the Nexia is IDENTICAL to a mk2 Astra [Opel Kadett E] underneath. So nearly all Astra GTE [Kadett GSI] stuff fits them.
All you need is a bigblock front engine mount and off ya go. You can use the standard radiator, water bottle etcetc. If you've any questions just ask, in a pm or here.

moin,

don´t forget the wiring. after you put an opel engine in, your airbag will be off. it is no plug and play.

the 20ne/seh has no cat. so you maybe need a c20ne. in germany we have to look, that our emission standard is not worser than before.

i have a c20xe in my nex. in germany are 5x nexia with the XE, 1x with an 1,8 16v from an astra, 1x with c20let and i think 2x with 6 cylinders.
the g15mf is not a bad engine. 150.000 km are no problems. only the ignition distributor (the small coil in it) make some trouble.

replacing the gasket, is similar to a 1,6 kadett. you only have to unscrew the powersteering pumpe, to get the cover from the timing belt away.

I think that if I put a (c)20ne/seh, the car will only be destined to circuit (with kadett gsi chassis parts )

But if I don't repair the original motor, the car will probably go to the breaker (I don't like this option but it's my parents' car, I don't do what I want ^^ ....

The ignition distributor has allready been changed not a long time ago

The 20NE's a RARE engine. It only came in the ascona's i think? Correct me if i'm wrong but the most common version is a c20ne, which has a cat, and came in mostly Vauxhall Cavaliers and possibly some late mk2 astras?

Wiring's not too hard. Airbag? Change the steering wheel/column for a vauxhall one then too lol. Other than that, think you need to wire up some dash cosmetics. Rev gauge etc. But its not too bad. My friend does a lot of the electric side of stuff for me, so im not 100% on that. Getting the engine in, and piped etc is a gift though. Especially seeing as the nexia uses an f16 gearbox. Suits the 8v nicely in terms of ratios etc.

in fact, the 20SEH is better, I think the 20SEH has 130hp, the C20NE only 115 :?:

the C20NE can be found in Calibras 8v, Astra f gsi 8v, Maybe Kadett and others
the 20NE is older, it can be found in kadett gsi but I don't know the other cars

for my airbag... I haven't airbag in mine

I've never heard of the 20ne in a kadett/astra, ever.

I've heard of them coming with a c20ne, a 20s, 20se, 20ser, and a 20seh. [of which the seh is the best, and you're right it's about 130bhp due to a different cam and ecu]

I thought the 20ne only ever came in an Ascona

[EDIT] sorry you're sorta right. It did come in a kadett, the early Kadett E's/mk2 Astra

moin,

i only said it, because over her, we can´t take out the airbag so easy. our tüv (MOT) don ´t sign it out and the insurance company make trouble if you have an accident and the airbag is not installed. but we nexia-drivers, living on the dark side of live. okay, we are believers and hope that we never get in trouble.
i know, you laugh about this problems, now. but thats our reality here. :x

please don´t ask me about more wacky laws we have. i can´t explain it in english, because i don´t catch the meaning of them in german, too.
