the 2.0L engine has a diffrent intake manifold . about sawping a 2.2 or 2.0 engine into a lanos I believe that it is possible. I saw many many cars with diffrent engines. for an example. I saw a Mazda 929 with a 2.0L diesel engine built with Nissan!!!
You can imagine how they make the engine fit in the mazda's bay.
In our case I think it is so easy to perform. as I heared here . I have 2 mounts similar but 1 diffrent. it well be easy to modefy this mount or modefy in the car engine compartment
Swapping a 1.6 into a Lanos & 2.0 into a Nubira

No modification is needed. All you need is engine mount for kadett E GSI, and you can mount c20xe or x22xe from Opel.nefary wrote:the 2.0L engine has a diffrent intake manifold . about sawping a 2.2 or 2.0 engine into a lanos I believe that it is possible.

Problems can be mounting klima or power steering...

i went today with Zikas to a shop that specializes is selling used car parts that are imported form outside the country to get an idea on whats available for swap options.
the shop had 2.0 DOHC engines from Nubiras and also 1.6 DOHC from Lanoses so all our engine mounts worries and stuff is all behind our backs now.
the more important question is the other parts of the car and how would they feel abut the swap, to make this clear we are considering a 2.0 DOHC swap for a 1.6 DOHC Nubira and and a 1.6 DOHC swap into a 1.5 SOHC Lanos.
basicly for the Nubira i think the 2.0 and the 1.6 shared everything as far as the brakes, suspension, exhaust, fuel pump and ECU are concerned... can some one confirm that??
for the Lanos things are a bit complicated i am afraid... i already know that the 1.6 lanos got bigger rotors and calipers but what about the suspension, exhaust, fuel pump and ECU ??
the guy at the shop told me that the 1.6 needs better suspension and it uses the same 1.5 ECU as well as the same brakes... indeed the brakes information he gave me is crap so i alrady suspect that the other info he gave is crap as well.
from the yahoo group i know that both the 1.5 SOHC and the 1.6 DOHC versions share the same suspension so i am not going to mess with that.
the real problem is in the ECU... we all know from the posts about tach installation that th e1.5 and 1.6 ECUs are different, the only problem is that the guy showed me his car which is a '02 Lanos with a 1.6 DOHC swap and he said it is running on the 1.5 ECU.
i am sure he wouldn't like anything more than selling me an ECU with will cost me an extra 1700LE where as the whole engine swap will cost just 2500LE (include trading in my 1.5 SOHC)... i personnaly started the 1.6 DOHC engine of that lanos of his and it is running great so how the hell can the 1.5 ECU run the 1.6 engine?? will it be as effecent as the 1.6 ECU?
to sum up my questions here:
1- what other parts to upgrade on a 1.6 DOHC Nubira to be just the same as an OEM 2.0 DOHC Nubira concerning brakes, suspension, exhaust, fuel pump and ECU?
2- what other parts to upgrade on a 1.5 SOHC Lanos to be just the same as an OEM 1.6 DOHC Lanos concerning brakes, suspension, exhaust, fuel pump and ECU?
3- how can the ECU of a 1.5 SOHC engine run a 1.6 DOHC engine? and how effecent will it be compared to the 1.6 ECU?

Something to keep in mind is that your suspension may need upgrades if you go to a 2.0L due the the extra weight of the larger engine.
As well your brakes should be upgraded to handle the extra weight and extra power.
I don't know what the difference is between the two engines.... but if I were to guess.... the 2.0L is probably 50lbs to 100lbs heavier.
Does anyone know the weight difference for sure??

As far as the ECU.... any ECU can be made to work with any engine.... it's just a matter of making sure the sensors give the same signal.
The basic "fuel map" will be very close.... all you really need is an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to make that slight adjustment between the two different ECUs.
Too bad I didn't keep my 1.5L SOHC Lanos..... I would have a 2.0L swap documented for you guys to follow.

thanks for the help Erfinder but we gave up on the 1.5 SOHC to 2.0 DOHC swap as that would have required some big mods for the engine mounts and engine bay... in this country it is almost impossible to get that right given the lack of precision that is an inherent charactristic in all workshops here.
instead we decided to keep with a direct drop in for both the Lanos and Nubira so we are getting a 1.6 DOHC that was taken out of a lanos thus having the correct engine mount that will directly fit the engine bay and also the PWS pump is in the same location as on the 1.5 SOHc so no PWS piping mods are required.
the same goes for the Nubira... basicly the 2.0 form a Leganza is the very same engine for the Nubira but it has different engine mounts location so going for a 2.0 from a Nubira will make it a direct drop in as well.
the beauty of this particular swap is that you are getting engines that were made to fit those particular cars thus illiminating any need for cutom jobs that would have been done inaccuratly as i mentioned before.
now what i am going after here is the "other" componets that are different between cars that come with different engine versions... so far i know the braking system on the1.6 DOHC Lanos is better than the 1.5 SOHC lanos... the 1.6 Lanos setup is similar to the one on the Nubira... right?
other than that i think every thing else including suspension, tranny and drive train are the same... indeed the 1.6 uses 14" rims and i got that covered already.
as for the Nubi i guess the 1.6 version is the same as the 2.0 so we just need to drop in the engine and we are done... right?

since the anti MMamdouh week still prvails i went to have a look at the parts manual... seems like the 1.5 and 1.6 Lanos doesn't share the same front suspension after all.
part numbers show different struts and springs... the shock absorbers are the same though.
still trying to get as muchefeed back as i can on the subject and the 2.0 swap for the Nubi starts tomorrow.
