Saab engine swap possibilities?

Post by Xavier »

Hi

I've searched but found nothing
How hard would it be to put a Saab engine into a Lanos? I mean those beefy 2,0 and 2,3 turbo plants found in 900 and 9000 (185-225hp). I know that they bolt onto all daewoo gearboxes because they have the same GM bellhousing.

The main questions are whether the engine mounts are same/similar to Daewoo and the wiring.

Any suggestions?

regards
Xav

PS. I know C20LET etc. but those saab engines tend to be bulletproof and cheap, plus the one from Saab 9000 has extra 0,3 litres

I'm sure it's possible..... but I have to think the mounts are very much different.

A decent shop that does custom installs should have no problem fabricating a new mount.

As far as wiring..... very different I'm affraid.... the Saab's are more like the European cars.

I'm trying to remember.... I think the intake and exhaust are on opposite sides ( so turbo at the back ) so there might be some clearance issues to take care of.

Everything is possible ;) Just a matter of $$$ and time.

Engine layout is similar to Opel/Daewoo (intake manifold at the back)

According to Wiki article ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM2900_platform ) Saabs use the same platform as Opel Vectra/Calibra etc. but it says nothing about engine mounts or electronics :(

I have all the Saab manuals at home.... so I will check but I'm pretty sure the B204,B205,B206, B234,B235 all had the turbo at the back

I think the older engines ( mounted at a wierd angle ) are a different setup all together

+1

you would have to use the motor from a 99-05 or so. and they tend to be less sought after than the stronger earlier motors (which are that ones concidered bullet proof).

I have one of these blocks that I can use to mock up in my Lemans (basically that same as a Lanos) but you would have to pay for the development.
