Post by rkarl89203 »

Egad I LOVE this car....bought it late last summer....AC worked then BUT

Now it doesnt.

I recharged the coolant, it was low, but still no AC...

Is there a fuse or somethng I should know about?

Thanks for any help or ideas....note: the compressor is turning free......not seized.

ok do this. start the car, and turn the air on. does the blower motor turn on? now (while the car is running) pop the hood. you should see he center section of your a/c compressor turning with the outer part of it. if you dont you might have a leak in the a/c system. if it is spinning then im stumped. i hope that made sence

Yes, it does to me,...
Also, start your engine with the A/C off than after it is idling, press the little a/c button the green light should come on and you should be able to hear the compressor kick on. Engine idle will also momentary drop rpms. If the belt needs adjustment (too loose) you will also hear a short "squeeeel"
If nothing ? Than look under the hood (by the battery) and remove fuse/relay cover. A/C relay and or fuse should be in there. Locations are marked on the cover or inside it. I forgot and it's too hot out right now for me to go look.. 108 degrees. Good thing my a/c in here is also working.

let us know your progress ?

1. Check that your blower is working and that all accompanying knobs work. The cables that control the HVAC in Daewoos are notoriously crappy. Mine once broke halfway between heat and cool, causing me to think AC fault.

2. Upon turning the AC on, wait to hear a fairly loud metallic "CLICK" from the AC clutch engaging. If you can't hear it, faulty AC compressor, fuse, or relay. If you can...on to step 3!.

3. Check all of your hard lines for leaks. Best way to do this is to charge the system and wait a week or so of normal driving to see if the pressure is the same. Not environmentally friendly...but who cares?

Also, did the AC go gradually or all-at-once? That might pinpoint the problem!

It appears to have gone all at once. Haven't even turned it on since last fall.

There is NO metallic 'click.' when the AC switch is on. I am beginning to think that the relay is the problem. I cant seem to find any fuse marked AC anywhere. The cable for hot/cold appears to be functioning correctly.

Thanks for all the help....do you know if there is a fuse in addition to the relay? cant find it if there is....

There should be a fuse for the HVAC controls in the interior fuse panel. I'm not sure which one as it may not be fully marked. With the car off and the battery disconnected, check each fuse to make sure they haven't blow. If the green light turns on within the AC button, then you have no problem with fuses. Just switch the AC relay with something else to check.

The green light DOEs come on, so now the relay is the next step...hmmmm...

or a weird compressor problem.....

oh well, troubleshooting continues.....

Next thing to do is to unplug the connector on the AC compressor itself and attach two wires to the actual jack on the compressor... (one 12V+ and one ground) either from a second battery or by unhooking your battery and running wires from it to the compressor. If the 12V source doesn't engage the clutch, then you'll need a new compressor.

My bet is that you'll need a new compressor.

Recheck for a blown fuse in engine bay. If blowed check the associated diode that is electricaly in paralel with the compressor clutch.

if he has a bad leak he would get the same simptoms as a bad compressor but its just a leak. get a leak test done.

their is a protection switch that prevents triggering the A/C compressor if you leaked all your cooling gas

Well, AC Clutch is good, don't know about that protection switch.....compressor seems ok, turns free and all...I am stumped.

I am going to do one more pressure check and then it's to the repair facility for diagnostics.

sheesh.

Or a VERY hot summer, lol
