New to group, advice sought!

Post by agent smith »

a very drunken greetings to everyone!

i am agent smith. i post on the daewootech yahoo groups, and have decided to move here as well. im a '00 lanos sport owner, and i love mah woo! why, just 10 minutes ago, 2 civics with loud ass fart cans picked a race with me as i was returning movies to teh local vid store. the funny thing was i was in 2nd and going about 38, which is 2mph below when VGIS kicks in. boy, it was funny to see them as i passed, one dude even gave me the finger! ive never laughed so hard in my life.. lemme tell ya! and dont drive drunk. im drunk now, but thats because i took 3 double shots of rum when i walked in the door (today begins the first day in a 3 day off spree from work... mind you ive not had a day off in about a month!). i was buzzed when i race, but you shouldnt do that either :> anywho, back to my poast.

as i said, im a '00 lanos sport owner. ill give you a rundown of the mods ive done, then ask my questions:

custom cold air intake (i have it latched firmly against the fog lamp hole with bungee chord + those little plastic things that are like safe handcuffs. i found a small enough hole to slip em through, so the cone filter does not move at all.

http://home.satx.rr.com/satxcichlids/un ... ftside.jpg

NGK (nkg?) double plat. plugs

BOSCH 8mm wires

2" exhaust piping

resonator removed

pre-cat removed

custom governer chip (guy at a daewoo shop in austin installed it before they closed... im still trying to get ahold of him), my car will top at 148mph (as shown on one of those highway speed trap things :>

front and rear seats removed (-75 lbs)

all plastics removed (from the driver seat back, that is) (-8lbs)

spare tire+jack removed (that was almost 40lbs....)

---

whew. now, for my questions:

how do i (and can anyone provide pictures) reroute the throttle body coolant? i live in texas, it RARELY freezes here (like once every 4 years if that), and this is a cheap mod i can do tomorrow.

ive heard good and bad about the choco chip, and am ordering one. can anyone post experiences regarding this chip? i have an 00 lanos sport, 5speed.

--edit--
oh yah, what kinda breather filter can i get for that hose right before the TB? i really wanna get rid of that hose...
--edit--

there is a small gold object to the right of the TB. i heard there was a mod regarding this that helped achieve VGIS sooner. has anyone performed this mod, and is it safe?

ill edit this post if i have more questions, or think of anything that might be relevant. thanks, and this loox like a place ill be visitin daily :) i cannot help but talk about mah woo all the time :D

and for shits and grinz, check out mah fish tank :)

Nice pics. Need more. We love them here. :D

I got a question for you. What is a VGIS?
I am still new so wish I could help on your questions.

VGIS = variable geometric intake system. in standard's, when you hit a certain RPM, the rube opens up wider, giving a little more of a boost.

The variable geometery is tuned for a particular RPM band... changing the threshold could actually decrease power.

I do however think that the factory switch point is no longer valid once you change the intake resistance by adding an aftermarket CAI because the intake resonance frequency will have changed.

Basicly it's like a ported subwoofer box.... if you change the speaker the port will most likely be the wrong length.... and the only way to fix it is to recalculate the port length or test it with a variable port tube.

The only way to so if there are any gains is to fool with it on a dyno.

yeah, i agree with what he said. however, when i installed my CAI, i mounted it firmly against the fog light hole, giving me some sort of ram air system. i get a considerable boost as opposed to running a stock intake system with the resonator removed.
