Hi Guys,
I have an automatic lanos 1.6 SX 5d. i am worried about the fuel consumption. I put in the tank, £30 which on the meter it says its nearly full. With that £30 i get 29 Litres. I reset the gage and I only get 120 miles before the fuel indicator says i want more fuel.
What should I be getting? or is this normal?
any advice would be greatly appreciated

120 miles = 192 kms
192/29= 6.6 kms per liter... way too low gas milage... my 1.5 SOHC averages some 10.8

You're from the uk so may be more familiar with gallons. 1 uk gallon = 4.55 litres
If you put in 30 litres of fuel and did 120 miles it works out at:
30 litres = 6.59 gallons
120 miles divided by 6.59 = 18.2 mpg (or 4 mpl)
Obviously it depends on your driving style and what kind of roads you drive on, but on average a uk spec Lanos should average around 35mpg. I have a 1.4 and get approx 38mpg with mainly around town driving. An auto may not do as much as a manual but you should still be getting a lot more than 18.2mpg.

if you drive with a heavy right foot, then those figures are quite likely. and considering its automatic (which are known for lesser economy) ...
i can get that low milage per gallon from my 1.3 if i drive it heavily and when im carrying people around.
if you drive very cautiously/economically ... maybe there's a fuel leak... or maybe the engine is running too rich in fuel for some reason.

Something to compare your milage to.
I would imagine the 1.6 Lanos sedan weighs more than the hatchback.
My Lanos hatch w/auto trans in top tune and tire pressure up to 35 PSI gets an average 30 miles per (US) gallon.
And about 2 MPG better with A/C off.
Danial is absolutely correct in his advice as to how to check fuel mileage.
You can also save some expense if you buy gas in the mornings when the temperature is cool.

ive gotten up to 37mpg in my woo. thats driveing 60mph on the freeway with a great tune up. i was getting like 27 mpg city when i parked my woo for the winter. i cant wait for spring when i can park the beast (93 f150) and drive the gas sipping woo again
