If your car uses a distributor then I can say definitely, NO it doesn't. The DIS (distributorless ignition system) models do carry a camshaft position sensor (CMP) and a crankshaft position sensor.

It would seem to me that the CMP is colocated with the coil pack. Notice that the coil pack bolts to the rear of the camshaft, just like the distributor does. Can anybody else comment?

no it is not their... i have removed the coil pack before and nothing is behind it at all... their isn't any parts of the cam shaft viewable from that location.

i recon if it does exist it will be at the sprocket side... got to make more searching.

So the coil pack doesn't make contact with the camshaft at all? Is there no part on the inside that seems to be rotatable?

non whatsoever... the coil pack is one sealed block with only 4 sockets for the spark plug wires and a single 4 port socket for ECU signal... nothing more is on it.

the mounting surface on the head is 100% sealed... nothing is rotating at all.

i also got confirmation today from my mechanic that the 1.5 SOHC engine got no CMP.

Very interesting indeed. I know for a fact that it uses a sensor on the crankshaft pulley. The twin cam engines do have a CMP because there was a recall on them...

Lanos Recall

Very interesting indeed.
