Fuel Pump for 2001 Lanos?
Hello everybody. I'm new here
Story is my friend moved out to California and left me his Daewoo, since he didn't want to take that AND his Mustang with him. The car needed some love. It wasn't running well, and the check engine light kept coming on. Checked the codes and it was throwing two different fuel system errors. I had suspected the whole time that it was either the fuel pump itself or a hole in the fuel lines. Once I cleared the codes, the car wouldn't even turn over. I disconnected the fuel pump, ran a seperate hose from the pump into a gas can and tried running it. Now, I've never dealt with a Daewoo before, but I'm pretty sure that the pressure coming out of the fuel pump is supposed to me more than just a trickle. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this. The rest of the engine seems to operate just fine.
I've been looking for a fuel pump for a week and a half now. I've called 14 companies that supposedly stock the OEM pump, but they're all on backorder with the manufacturer. I've even called the OEM supplier myself and they say they have no idea when they'll be able to ship out the part. I've had no luck finding one anywhere else, either (OEM or aftermarket). Can anybody here help me out? Where would I find one?
She's a cute little car, compared to what I got rid of for her. My old car was a 95 Chevy Beretta, and it was pink, had no AC, puddled in the floorboards every time it rained, rusted on the ground, and smoked like a chimney. So this car is an upgrade I just wish I could get her running! The only thing holding me back is that fuel pump.

Welcome here,
Since you have the pump in hand did you checked if the internal filter is not clogged?

They seem to have everything on order and even when they ship from Korea, it only takes maybe 2-3 weeks.
Costs are the best I've found for OEM parts.
Also, does the Aveo pump fit the Lanos? I know the Aveo utilizes the returnless while the Lanos utilizes a "return" system. I don't know if that affects the parts...

Hey Brittany,
Welcome !
I am assuming you made your fuel-flow test prior to the fuel filter thats mounted on the firewall ?
An E-bay search turned up about 5 different sellers.
This one for instance:
http://search.stores.ebay.com/Northern- ... 88QQsofpZ0
Above is not OEM (cost $127.00 new USD) but some other ones are. And they cost a lot more.
Others for instance:
http://search.ebay.com/Daewoo-lanos-fue ... sacatZ6000
Sorry about the long URL's. I know there is a way to make it shorter. I just don't know it.
Best wishes w/your new woo. They are great cars !

Daniel - Yes, I have. When you said "internal filter", for some reason my brain thought you meant a filter inside the unit itself. Yes, I checked the filter pad and it was completely clean.
Spider - Yes, I tested the flow before the filter on the rail, and even then, that filter was just replaced before my friend gave me the car. Before he gave me the car, he also replaced the spark plugs and cleaned the injectors, so all those things are ruled out.
Also, I have searched on E-bay previous. The search you returned for Northern Auto Parts is a no go. I called them up a week ago to verify that they indeed had the pump on hand. The gentleman I talked to at their store said they did NOT have the part, and that it was on backorder. The same thing went for 3 other e-bay people I called. If you read the fine print on their auctions, they state they "may not have the part in stock". There is another seller that has them in Miami, but he is listing them wrong as Lanos pumps, the part number corresponds to a Nubira pump. Are they the same? Could I buy the Nubira pump for the Lanos? Or would that be a waste of money? They look similar...

louie - Already tried them. They cancelled my order and refunded my money because they are backorderd on the part. Anybody that sells the part with the number E8514M, anybody at all, does NOT have it. That part is manufactured by a company called Airtex, and it is private labeled for a few different people. Whether the private label brand or the Airtex brand, it is not available and will not be available for an indefinite amount of time. I know this because I called Airtex personally, and they told me that nobody has it and they don't know when they'll get it to people.

Brittany,
Yes, they do look the same. Try e-bay "ask seller a question" and/or call Daewoo, AutoZone or Aittex and see if
they can cross-reference those part numbers? Someone will know.
Also, I've had very good results from NAPA when it comes to hard to find parts.
As a last resort you could try a wrecking yard.
AND.......
Just to clarify ? You said; "the filter on the "rail", right ?
Did you mean the fuel rail ? Although it looks like one, it is not a filter.
It's a vacuum operated fuel-pressure regulator.
The fuel-filter I was referring to (and the one you make the pressure-test prior to) is the one on the firewall,
this one ;

A pretty good sized filter.
It's about 3 inches in diameter and maybe 5 inches long.
This is the only inline fuel-filter on the Lanos woo.
Hope you find what you need.

Spider - Yah yah. That's what I toyed with. That's what was replaced. I'm just really bad with names so when I talk about cars, EVERYTHING is referred to as "that thing", or if I know a term, I'll use it, even if it isn't right. Sad, I know how to fix it, but I couldn't tell you WHAT it is...haha.
I tested almost every part of the line. First was at the valve stem that comes from the engine... the little thing that looks like a valve stem that comes from a tire... yeah. Pressed on that a couple times and fuel just dribbled out. Tested it with a pressure gauge, pressure was less than 10 psi. Then detached the filter on the firewall and tried there. Same thing.
Then took out the back seat, went into the fuel tank and pulled out the pump. Checked the pump's filter, it was clean. That's where I pulled the lines from the pump, took a seperate hose that I had, attached it to the pump in the tank, ran that hose to a gas can so I wouldn't squirt fuel all over the place, and turned the key. The pump primed and pulled fuel, but the flow was pathetic, it was like there was almost no pressure at all. Now, from my understanding, a fuel injected system should be pressurized around 30psi. Unless this Daewoo creature is totally off the wall. So, therefore, my quest for a fuel pump.
And alas! I think I found a solution. After much googleing, found this website, www.daewoous.com, that lists all the dealerships that still service or sell parts for Daewoo's in the US. After calling 8 places, I finally found one that actually had a pump in stock. So we'll see in a week or so if it works! Wee. Exciting.

for me, i would just try to fit a simillar pump to the tank, and it wouldnt be a very big deal if it was pumping fuel with a little more pressure
