Need Help. Car just died

Post by louie1487 »

My friend has a 2000 lanos sedan auto tranny. His car was sitting for about 3 months. 2 days ago he cranks it to move it so he can inflate the tires. After inflating the tires, he tries to crank it and nothing works. No lights, ac, radio, etc. Starter doesnt try to start. Car started perfectly the first time. I checked fuses under dash and under hood and all worked just fine including the main fuse. Car has new battery and new battery terminals.

Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance

Well, if it isn't the battery or fuses. Check the alternator and grounds

If its not the alternator check the timing belt.

And then check your checkbook.

Also check that all the multiplug connectors are properly connected. Located behind the side kick panel next to the indoor fuses.

Remove the battery cables from the battery posts and clean everything till it shines.
Than try it.
And, if you don't already have one ?
Get a 'digital multi meter' (inexpensive at any auto parts store, Wal-Mart, etc. and comes w/instructions)

Set it at 20 VDC and start checking the stuff mentioned above.
This way you can find out where the juice is going and where it isn't going and than act accordingly.

Please keep us posted ?

Ok. got car to crank. must have been the paint on the battery terminals. didnt let connectors make a good contact. Thx guys

Now car makes a horrible noise and doesnt have any power in 1st gear until about 3K rpm.

Ill will post a sound click and see what you guys think.

Also, does anyone have a DIY for the timing belt.

Thanks again.
