skimming cylinder head

skimming cylinder head

i would just like a few opinions, ideas, thoughts or any input about skimming the cylinder head on the lanos 1349 ohc (a13sm) engine. i'm thinking 0.5mm to 0.75mm... to increase the compression ratio.

any input will be appreciated.

what is your engine code? just wondering cause i know there are a couple of 1.3's but i don't rememberwhat engine there based on. is it an 'R90' motor or like the 1.6 here in the states?
it really depends on what type of pistons come in the sinlge 1.3 and what the compression ration is. i think the 1.3 is based on the 'R90' castings and SOHC's usually are not an interference motor.
youe machine shop should be able to tell you what kind of clearence is recomended.

otherwise, if you wont have valve issues i'd say do it. a lot of budget race teams do it cause the classes they run in restrict the pistons they can us.

theres something new: "R90"? how many different engine codes does a car company need? lol
i dont know, can u explain what the R90 is all about.

as for stock compression ratio, its 9.50:1

another thing, ive seen the terms non-interference and interference motors elsewhere... anyone care to explain what this is?

EDIT: dont worry about answering my question about interference/non engines, i know what it is now. still im not sure whether the 1.3 is or not. will try to find out.

that's a good question about the "R90". R90 refers to the 'family' of the motors for exampl, the Z20LET, C20LET, X20XEV, C20XE, T20SED, (and the hundreds of others) all have different components and are assembled completely different but they are all from the same basic casting. the block design, crank, most accessories are the same.

refering to the "R90" is the best way to identify that will be compatible between the different engines used by Opel, Vauxhall, Daewoo...

so by knowing if you motor is based on the R90 then you could use the crank from one of the 2.0's to stroke your motor, you'd have to check block height first.

the casting marks R90 ... ... will be to the right of the exhaust manifold on the side of the block.

my 1.5 SOHC is an interference engine... not sure abut the 1349.

Rodd1s: why go into that hussle when you can simply stroak your engine and go up to 1500CC??

good question... which is why im asking for opinions/ideas/thoughts. im not yet saying that i am deffinitely doing it... just an idea i got after reading something about the power gain you can get when skimming the cyl. head on the 800cc suzuki engine. as they have a stock compresion ratio of 8.6:1
and dont worry, i have also thought about upping to 1500cc. i just like to lay all my options in front of me and then decide what to do.
