04 1.6 Head bolts

Post by aveoal »

I am replacing the head on my Aveo and I need to know if I can reuse the head bolts. I do have some head bolt torque specs, but I'd like to compare to other info. :?:

Yes, and as far as I know ? those head-bolts are; "one time only" useage.
They are also known as "streach-bolts"

If I am wrong?
someone please correct me.

Yup it is bad.

The bolts are stretch bolts and as such are designed to be used only once, as are the con rods bolts.

I re-used my head bolts the first time the cam belt broke. spent all that money on new valves etc and re-used the bolts. it meant i didn't quite get the torque the bolts were supposed to have and I broke the intake camshaft after 10000kms.

BUY NEW.

Interesting literature on the ARP site http://www.arp-bolts.com/Catalog/Catalog.html .
But you guys. Do you clean and lubricate the threads before bolting head?

Yup always replace head bolts whether stretch bolts or not! Whats the point in replacing all your gaskets etc then using the old bolts which may be stressed? Although most of the head work I do is on HGV engines (Thats my trade!) i ALWAYS clean out the threads in the block before butting new head bolts in. This allows for the torque to be as precise as possible and also if you have any coolant, oil, dust or whatever in the hole when you wind down the head bolt it may compress and crack the head!

what is the part number for Aveo ARP head stud and bolt kit. And also for the main engine block stud and bolts kit.

Is the studs and bolts similar to Lanos or opel/vauxhall 1.6 vehicle?

I am rebuilding my engine. Wish to upgrade to better studs and bolts for engine block and head for high compression ratio.
