hello!
so i have another timing belt question, so the serpentine belt failed and a little piece worked it way onto the crankshaft where the timing belt goes and cause it to slip. i replaced the both belts, to be safe and now the car will not start, it just cranks, but will not fire. have gas at the fuel rail, there is a spark at the plug. will a car with a bent valve still start? what are some other things what could have gone wrong? thanks for all the help in advance. oh the car has 1.6 liter engine in the aveo.
replaced timing belt and will not start

bent valve ---> no compression ---> engine failure.

Sorry to say but engine damage did occur if the timing belt broke.
As stated above, the valves interface with the pistons if the timing belt breaks or a tooth or two come off it.
Your engine may be refusing to start because it is trying to keep you from doing more damage to it.
Many good posts in this forum with timing belt information, here is just one.

thanks for the help guys,
so from reading other post i understand it is less expensive to buy a used engine than repair the damaged one?
know where i can find one?
i did reconnect all the sensors, now i am going to have to pull the valve cover. i guess i was hoping for some quick fix, anyhow thanks.

You missed the original post..... the timing belt did not break.... it slipped.Spider wrote:Sorry to say but engine damage did occur if the timing belt broke.
Odds are that two of the cylinders would have bent valves but if it just "slipped" I would guess that the other two cylinders are ok.
So I agree with Audacity..... it should sputter.
Even with bent valves the spark should still ignite the fuel in the cylinder.... it's just that the flame front/ pressure would come out the exhaust or out the intake....creating mild backfire sounds.
If it's completely dead, perhaps you have something else going on.
I would suggest removing all the spark plugs and rotate the engine (via crankshaft bolt and ratchet wrench ) to see if it's free wheeling.
If you find a point where there is resitance... don't try to turn it past.... odds are your problems might be bigger than you think (such as a valve protruding through a piston )
Like Audacity said.... check that all your connectors are plugged in and make sure you didn't mix up the spark plug wires.
