Leganza owners - thinking about removing intake resonator ?

Dont even bother.

Heres my experience -

Removing the resonator in a leganza is a big pain where the sun dont shine. Seriously. And its not even worth it.
I removed the resonator and did not notice a difference that would make it worthwhile.

I wouldnt mind the weight off my car, but the worse thing is that without the resonator, the car will "hum" at idle. You dont really hear it, but will deffinetely feel the vibrations when you are parked at a red light. It really males the comfort aspect worse.

I also noticed this when I removed the resonator from my 93 escort, which already vibrates like its discoing in moscow at idle. The hum was horrible so I ended up putting the Y tubing back on and adding a high flow cone filter - then I could feel the difference. I was going to do the same thing with my leganza but the problem is that in our cars, the extra "snorkel tube" goes connected to to the resonator itself. If you follow the how to instructions on this forum (which were written for a lanos, I believe), it says you have the option of leaving the Y tube on. Not so in our case.

The best bet, IMO, is to simply leave the resonator on and just get rid of the stock airbox and filter and add a cone filter. That way you enjoy the advantages of the less restrictive filter without losing any comfort in your ride.

if you take the stock air box off, then the resonator is disconnected any ways, so why leave it in the car. i removed the resonator in my lanos and it was fine, even with a CAI, and a SRI. you dont really hear it at idle, but when you stomp on it, you can REALLY

If you take the stock airbox off and replace it with a cone filter the tube will no longer be connected to the resonator. However, the resonator will still help keeping the "humming" down.
I tried all ways with my escort, and the best setup is with no air box, a cone filter, and the Y tube still connected. I did remove the big resonator box though. Without the Y tube however, the humming gets really annoying.

In the leganza you cant have the tube without the big box. So Im gonna put it back on sometime soon (I hope) and add a cone filter. I'll let u know if that solves the probelm while at the same time adding a nice sound.

And I know what you are saying about hearing it when you stomp on it...but maybe leganzas are different or my car is weird. I do notice a deeper sound but its only a very, very small difference. I felt it more on my escort when I removed the resonator and left the stock airbox....

This makes no sense to me. How can it keep the "humming" down, if it's no longer a part of the intake system? It's sort of like saying that the front bumper that isn't connected to anything but the body will help keeping the humming down. Maybe it's just me...
I did have a CAI and now am running an SRI with no problems. Idles fine too.

I guess because the front bumper is not engineered to reduce noise, while the resonator is...
Either way, I really dont know much about cars, and Im only talking based on my 1 previous experience. Like I said before, leaving the Y pipe made a noticeable difference even if it was no longer connected to the intake, or even to the resonator box.

I'll see when I can buy a jack and some stands and find time to lift the car and replace the resonator AND remove the intake filter housing. Then Ill let u know if it makes any difference for sure.

the resonator can't reduce sound if it is no longer part of the intake, once you use SRI setup the resonator is absolutly usless.
