1.6 aveo engine compared to the 1.6 xe

Post by aveosam »

now i was looking at this article:
http://www.sbdev.co.uk/History_files/Hi ... ngPair.htm

and i saw that the 1.6xe was making 191bhp at 8000rpm 133lb.ft at 7000rpm ....which is very respectible from a 1.6L...now how different is the head on that engine compared to the aveo's? i know the 1.6xe has a higher CR than the aveo but could i use the xe's pistons in the aveo or aftermarket xe 11:1 pistons in the aveo? basically i am asking if i could potential turn my 1.6 into something similar to the 1.6xe

i am not 100% sure of this:

you can use the XE pistons in your engine but i don't think it is that simple... i recon the managment has to be different as well to contribute for those output numbers as well as the higher compression ratio this engine is running.

hi
That place SBD motorsport is 5 mins away from me.
Ive been looking into how simliar the Lanos ohc 8v 1349cc engine is too
the Vauxhall Astra mk3 1.4 8v ohc, not sure in europe which car name it is,
its the model up from the astra gte/ kadett e.
I took the head block apart on the astra and lanos, and measured the
bits up.
At the moment, and pretty sure ive measured it correctly. The camshafts, lifters, springs
and lifters are the same.
So you can now go get performance cams from either Kent Cams or Piper Cams. Their kit
comes with Sports Camshaft, Cam Followers,Valve Springs,Modified Retainers, Gasket Fitment kit, Cam Lube, Timing Disc
they are on ebay to - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... &rd=1&rd=1

Hope that helps people

Almost every DOHC engine can putout over 100HP per litre... But on what rpm, and on what compression ratio...

A16DM in lanos 1.6 16V (probably the same in aveo) have only 9.5:1 compression ratio... Opel's similar 1.6 16V have also 105HP on 10.5:1 compression ratio.... So this means that A16DM have better head and inlet system...

Lower down head and build up compression ratio to 11:1 on A16DM, and with some head work, and ECU remaping, you are looking probably at 140HP... Lighten up engine internal parts and flywheel, balanse it, and make it run at 8000rpm, and you are probably looking at 160HP on A16DM. Maybe even more...

Ecology is killing those engines. They have much more potenciall..

Lets look on C20XE with is older Opel's 2.0 16V DOHC engine... It pumps out 156HP stock...
And lets look at newer brother X20XEV with 2.0 16V DOHC. It's the same engine with higer ecological standards (same compression ratio, same block, same pistons, little different head)... It pumps out ONLY 136HP..

First one C20XE can pumpout up to 300HP NA, with STB kits...
