Strange noise problem with Lanos

Post by norbie »

i had some woo problems earlier!!

well it was really really weird this have never happened before

just got into car at a restaurant, just been to dinner with my girlfriend and she laughed at my remote central locking noise saying its silly on a daewoo

i said whats wrong with daewoos theyre great cars never let me down

lol.. shouldnt have said that

I started the car, turned round and noticed a really loud noise. it was pretty scary so i pulled over into a carpark and lifted up the hood.

The best way to describe it would be like a really loud fan in the engine bay. when i revved it sounded like it got a little bit louder or faster. i looked all round the engine bay and couldnt see anything. the fan at the front of the car wasnt on. the engine was not hot it had been off for about 1 hour. It was like a loud fan, definetely something electrical.

I turned the engine off, and this noise was still going! It turned off about 10 seconds after i had turned the engine off

I'm pretty sure it was something electric running like a fan then it turned off 10 secs after engine went off.

Engine wasn't running hot, and I couldn't see where the noise was coming from. It sounded like the back of the engine bay, but I couldn't see any fans.

It was fine driving home, when i started the engine it didnt do it that time.

Any ideas?

Starter?

The engine started fine, and always has done. It has only made this noise once, today. I don't know much about engines, are you suggesting the starter motor or something is faulty?

I'm thinking maybe it's engaging for no apparent reason... I dunno.

Maybe the AC blower (not the fan in the engine bay, but the fan inside the dash)

I turned off the AC (I did have it on) but it didn't seem to be that either. It wasn't the noise of the car starting if that's what you're thinking of about the starter. It sounded like it was something electrical becuase it stayed on after the engine was off then went off after abou 10 seconds, which would seem to be related to engine cooling but I've never had this before.

daewoomofo seems to think it could be the starter as well:

Daewoomofo says:
the starter solinoide (sp) might have stuck
Daewoomofo says:
if the solinoid is sticking it should be changed, so that it dont just keep on sticking and burn the starter up.

if this is the problem, do i need to replace the whole starter or just a solenoid?

Especially if the kick gear sticks out, then it can ruin the flywhee/teeth the starter's dog teeth, and keep the motorhot and can cause a fire. Personal experience with a Nissan sentra, replace it :)
