Is this a bad sign..

Post by David74 »

Hi there i've noticed lately that i've been loosing some liquid coolant ,a little bit at the time.I just replaced the Radiator ,thermostat, timig and all the rest of the belts ,new OEM water Pump from daewoo dealer.Today i was replacing the fuel injectors and when i pulled the hose for the oil Vent, coming out of the right side from the valve cover ,i noticed a lots of build up of whitish oil.It looks all most like when you have bad head gasquit and the water is mixing with the oil,how is that possible ..???
I changed my Oil yestarday and it looked good,so is in the camshaft area and when i pull the Dip stick its clean.
Wher is this tube goes from the Valve cover to ............???also yestrday i replaced the Oil Pressure switch at the bottom of the Oil Pan and the Oil looked good to.I'm not sure...???
any ideas???
Lanos 1.6 DOHS 120000 miles ,1999.

Has your car been sitting for while, or has it been cold? Sounds like losses due to temp change and condensation for teh same reasoning.

sounds more like condensation rather than bad head gasket... if you have a bad head gasket your engine oilo will be a total mess.

try to locate the leak you are having... it is more likly that this is an external leak rather than internal.

On cold mornings where the oil will have a little moisture to it, and as you start your car, the heated oil evaporates the left moisture and around the highest point on the engine the moiture goes(Oil cap). Plus i know that i get that light bit of maynonase up in the cap on moisture filled mornings, cause my lanos doesn't have a rubber gasket or anything to seal where the top of the cap meets the valve cap entrance.. which could be leaking enough air(since most are not air tight, and most cars leak from their oil filler cap that i have had) to cause this problem on cold days.
