Engine number?

Where can I find the engine number for my 2000 Lanos (1.6L DOHC)?

Is there a way to figure it out (maybe approximately) from the VIN? I just need to know if my engine number is before E246980 as I need to buy a valve cover gasket and that number seems to be a production break for the valve cover stuff at least.

I'm afraid that distributor only can make a relation between VIN and engine number.
