Leggy help Engine Problemo

Post by Woo_Dis »

Yesterday was the worst day of my Leggys life. I was driving home from a friends house and all of a sudden my car dies. At first it made a wierd noise, and then a second later the engine shuts off completely. Leaving me glideing on the street with no power to the brakes or steering. luckliy I made it with enough power to pull over an park. I dono whats wrong with the car. I try to start it but it just makes the same noise as it did when i shut off. I thought it was the battery at first but all the lights and audio works perfectly with full power to it. I also tried to jump it but nothing. I recently installed a remote start alarm on the car, but i dono if it can completely shut down a car in motion?
Has somthing like this ever happen to you guys?? I dono whats wrong with my LegGy.Can Anyone give me a Synopsis??? :P

Yes, when my Contour died. But I was doing a burn out at the time and over revved it. After that it wouldn't even crank over, would just click (when trying to start it).

That sucks man, I really hope it's your remote starter and not the engine... :(

Well i really dont know about the remote start system but with those symptoms it seems that your timing belt is broken.

have you check your TIMING belt?????? :?

My educated guess, hmm..., maybe its your alternator.

Had a similar thing happen to me, driving at night, lights got dim and a few seconds later it was dead.

Still don't know why steering and brakes went out.

Maybe it is your timing belt. :(

:( Damn!!! Thats what everyone tells me. I've also heard stories that when your timng belt breaks a whole mess of problems occur to your engine when that happens. Is this true? :? And what are the problems that you guys had?

First, how many miles are on the car?

If the timing belt did break, the valves can be down into the cyllinder area when the pistons come up to meet them and say HI in a very unfriendly way.
The valves can break off, the valves can knock holes through the tops of the pistons, and the con rods can even get bent or break.

This is NOT a fun or inexpensive thing to have happen.

Again, what milage is on the car? Has the timing belt ever been changed?

errr? well im from EU we use KM... but isnt 85.500miles even more in KM ? your supposed to change you belt every 90.000km (preferbly 60.000km or it could still snap)

so like... go shop fora new engine or a new head whit valves in em (depending on dmg)

Man, same problen just this past saturday. Timing belt. Final. Do not try to star the car or you will damage the engine more. Maybe if you no try to start it to many times the engine can be in good shape. To verify if it was the timing belt. Just go to the are where the timing belt is(left side) and pull out the cover. And you will see. I see mine this saturday and it was broke. Sad  .

Well my car is now in the mecanic shop(again after one week o lord), so I will thell you soon, how much cost to fixt. I change it at 55k miles and they aparently put a remanufacture timing belt. One year lattler cosh...! Broke.... Dam western auto/pepboys stores. Now I just chk my car in a Daewoo official shop.

I won't shop at Pep Boys.

Remanufactured timing belt? I'v never heard of that. I didn't think it was possible!

What do they do, take old factory belts that have come off a car that is getting a new belt and then resell them after they have been cleaned???
