240sx sr20de lost a lot of power

Post by delphis »

hey everyone in the faithful daewoo world, I know this isn't a nissan forum but unfortunately those are populated by mostly kids and wannabe ricers and I can't get any good help from them.

ok so I am having a problem with my sr20de(non turbo) I was driving home the last night and the engine had a loss of power wasn't over heating and oil level was fine. it seems like on the the cylinders isn't firing or maybe something wrong with the timing. it shutters very bad at start up and runs very rough and has very little acceleration power. sometimes even while coming to a stop the engine will just die on me. it is running on a ka24e ecu and a modded ka24e wiring harness. It definitely seems like only 3 cylinders are firing just because of the loss of power. There is no water in my oil so there isn't any head issues.

I added some injector cleaner and checked the timing and all of the plugs are still firing but I didn't to check the actual timing itself.

symptoms:
has a rough time idling drops pretty low and I must rev on occasion to keep the engine from dying.
takes a long time to accelerate up to normal speed
top speed on flat ground is just about 70-75mph while flooring it in 5th gear

any advice from the pros would be greatly appreciated!

thanks
timmay

start with the basic

check spark and fuel

all sensor plugged in?

get a OBD scanner check for codes

Off Topic :

why would u put a SR20DE on a 240SX ?
stock is better than that for the 240SX

Putting an sr20de in is sometimes cheaper than buying the sr20det, after he's got the sr20 all figured out, and has the money he can put on a turbo basically for cheap cheap... It may take longer but it can be cheaper sometimes...

air filter clogged?
spark plug wires leaking?
coil pack failure?
spark plugs acting up?
FPR acting up?
clogged injectors?
vacuum leaks?

i am more inclined towards electrical issue, they always come out of no where nad cause lots of trouble without any visual evedence.

air filter clogged? chcked and replaced that
spark plug wires leaking? well I tested all of the wires with a timing gun and all were firing but didn't get to check the plugs themselves
coil pack failure? getting spark across all 4 wires so that is good
spark plugs acting up? haven't tried replacing them yet
FPR acting up? I am thinking this might be the issue maybe some wire shorted it out because it sounds and feels like its not getting enough fuel
clogged injectors? got some injector cleaner didn't help
vacuum leaks? haven't checked for those yet.

well the sr20de makes about the same horsepower as the ka24e and weighs about a 1/4 less considering it is an aluminum block vs a steel block and the sr20de is a short stroke engine and therefor loves higher rpm levels and is more accepting of higher amounts of boost as the ka engine you have to do a lot of modding to to get the same amount of boost and power to the wheels.

I have tried zilvia.net sr20forum nicoclub.com and all of them are just a bunch of kids and it seems like no one with a lot of knowledge reads those forums.

Yeah most of those sites are full of people who act like they're 16 years old... If everyone remembers it's like how it was with Daew0Leganza on these boards before except every single post seems like it...
