US emissions warranty

Post by Woowagon »

The flex pipe on my '00 Nubi wagon has failed. I took it to Midas to get an estimate. These particular guys are an honest bunch. They actually tried to NOT take my money.

Since the down pipe, flex pipe, and catalytic convertor are one piece, they claim that the emissions warranty should cover the repair. I tried to explain that Daewoo is defunct here in the States so there is nobody to honor anything. They counter by saying that somebody HAS to, as it is a federal regulation.

I have them write up the estimate anyway as they have the parts to do it and tell them that I will make an attempt at finding some warranty info. Has anyone tried this yet. The only entity that MIGHT have anything to do with honoring the emissions warranty is GM since they supply the drivetrain. What say you all?

I think that for $154 and change I just have them do it and move on. Of course, that is a lot of good beer and scotch.....

GM is responsible for your warranty. I would contact them.

GM bought Daewoo. they set up a fund for people that have warrantie issues. so yes GM will cover it (or at least they should) contact your local daewoo service center.

I was aware that GM bought Daewoo already. That is why I mentioned that they might be the only ones who might take care of this. There are no Daewoo service centers around. That is why I posted here looking for some info from those who may have tried already. I did email GM this morning but there is no direct email for handling warranty claims. I doubt I will get a response. I have looked at aftermarket flex pipes and may go that route. Just need to find the time to do it. Midas is looking pretty good right now.

Well guys, on your advise and prodding, I was able to get my problem resolved for next to nothing. I ended up shelling out $150ish but that was for a new O2 sensor. They claimed that there's no way to remove the old one without damage since it has been in so long. I was not going to argue with them to much because they did cover everything else. In the end I have a new downpipe/flexpipe/rear cat assembly with a new O2 sensor, and harware installed for cheap. Anyone want to guess the dealer cost of just the pipe assembly? Try to not peek!

Luckily, I did not have to pay that much OR make my own (no time to screw around with stuff like that nowadays).

Folks might want to to note that "Merchant's Daewoo" in NH will not touch or talk about Daewoo vehicles. I have frequent contact with people from Merchants and have tried several different routes to obtain parts or information. The report each time is "We've gotten rid of everything."

Hope this saves someone some time and effort.
