Simple airbox / induction filter mods...

Hey,

Is there anyway of de-resrticting the airbox in the 1.6ltr lanos? or are they pretty ok already?

How do the panel type K&N filters perform in these motors?

Its pretty restrictive stock (as you can imagine).

A K&N panel filter will help.

Also take out the intake resonator under the airbox and have a CAI setup. Have a look in the "How To" section for detailed instructions.

This is the best mod to do since its free...

Myself I have a leganza, and what I did was went to a muffler shop and found a piece of 3" pipe had it flared to hold a cone filter no charge, the filter cost 14.00 us. then removed old air box and resonators and put in 2 pipe pvc end caps .20 us each and clamped everything. total apx 15.00 us total after tax.

which part exactly is the 'intake resonator' and what is the purpose of this?

with removing it and not fitting a CAI straight away make much difference in performance or sound?

I just wana know as much as possible before i rip it all apart!

the resinator is a box and little tube and i think a Y tube is in there too. all you have to do is take off the plastic fender well and then you'll see everything. just take it all out and thats it. you can also just turn the wheel all the way over and do it that way to but it'll be a pain to reach in there and get it all out.

the resonator reduces the intake sound but it makes it more restrictive... removing it will add power and more sound to your engine, best deal is to remove the resonator and keep the Y pipe attached to the bottom of the air box to keep the sound not that high.

i also noticed it is much easyer to remove the bottom resonator bolt by removing the front right headlight and reaching out from the gap under it.

Mmamdouh speaks the truth! Take the light out - makes it easier.

When I did this mod i left the Y pipe in and left it like that for a while - more air and more induction noise. After a while i hooked up a pipe from the fog light hole and hose clamped it to the bottom of the Y pipe. Easy to do and a bit of difference again.

Well worth doing. Takes what - about an hour to do if your fiddling around trying to find stuff and get at the nut at the top of the resonator box

hey all,

i know this is reallu old but i just removed all the restriction stuff!

already fitted the K&n panel filter about a month ago too.

didnt take that long to remove it all while using the 'How-To' and we used one of the pipes that was coming off the Y-tube and ran it to the front of the car...

Havent tested it yet though!!!

Heres the view from the front fog light...

Its the resonator and y-tube removed with the old hose from the y-tube, coming straight off the airbox!

nice work... try to get a longer pipe - 2.5" PVC pipe - and extend the path from the bottom of the air box to the fog light hole... that will give you a bit of a ram effect and presumably a bit more power.

yeah thats my next plan...

get some polished 3" piping from the air box to the front tof the fog light!

the hose i used was already on the resonator set-up so it was free

car sounds awesome now and the gf reckons its picked up a bit of power!

i def noticed the extra sound
