Bought a 01' Lanos cheap ($300) with a broken timing belt. I replaced the belt (thanks to the forum) after aligning the camshaft marks and the crank mark (rear timing belt cover mark was not a "dead" bottom; slightly left) Changed plugs (good spark) and and tried starter fluid (fuel; electric fuel pump engages). Engine just turns over. Reset/aligned the marks (camshafts and crank). No start. Battery fully charged. I will try a ECU "reset" to see if that works.
SPARK! FUEL! NO START!
HELP???????

i would give a guess to say the valves are bent, take apart down to cylinder head and see if there is any bent valves or check if rotate both camashaft(s, If DOHC) will turn freely without any bad friction, if they are, you have bent valves and/or something badly broken.
Does the car try to start/ does the crankshaft rotate at all or is there any kind of loud sounds.
Give me sound and movement descriptions and what kind of lanos you have Auto/ Manual,1.5/1.6,sohc/dohc, miles on odometer, this info can help me help you.

lanos engines are interference engines so in the event of a snaping timing belt you will always end up with a minimum of bent valves... on some mre sever cases it could be head damage, piston damage or cam shaft damage.
my suggestion is to take the head off and inspect the damage, you can get a set of valves and cure this easly... lets just hope that the previous owner didn't try hard to sart it with the broken belt 'cause that would make the damave much more than bent valves as i explained.

01 Lanos won't start
I thought all the engines were not "interference" engines.
Car has 89,000 miles. DOHC 1.6 engine with an automatic transmission.
What is the estimated cast of a valve job?
How about a cylinder head? I've got experience (I did change the timing belt) working on cars.
Could the timing "still" be off?

i will see how much it will cost for a valve job when i can, it would probably be tomorrow since no Daewoo shops aren't open on sundays. It still could be out of timming but in my experience in timming it would at least stall after attempting to start, somethings definitely not right. when i had my other car before my lanos, i had the timming belt snap right after i turned it off, it bent 4 valves and cost $250 (USD) to fix, but that was on a V8 and it was a limited edition motor. Clean all of the spark plugs, making sure they have no black on the tips which can (happen after putting new ones in) make a cylinder not fire( from experience) and then give it one good crank, and no progress, then make way to the nearest garage to fix it. Other people on the forum like MMamdouh can possibly help you better than i could, but lets just start with the simple things that could keep it from starting. You just need to recheck your work and make sure the timming is right.
Here is the valve part #'s

you can get a new set of valves for fairly cheap. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 8063296685 I know the auction has ended but just contact the guy he might still have them. I have never done a vavle replacement job, but I would think it would be all to difficult, just refer to the service manual and I am sure it will explain how difficult it is to do.

you got bent valves for sure, i bet you got ZERO compression... take the head off and relace the damaged ones.
