Engine Revving Again

Post by PoTsUrFrIeNd »

I had a revving problem in my aveo and then I took the advice and cleaned out my tb and iac. that seemed to fix the problem or at least seriously decrease it. It is starting to do it again and being extremely frustrating. a new iac is 83.00 and I was wondering if I should just get a new one?

it will intermittantly idle high and take a while to go down again, sometimes it will be quick, and sometimes not....but it is alot better after I cleaned it the first time. it is just creeping back again.

and my warranty expired at 36,000 now all I have is one that requires a 200$ deductible.

I have same issue

Post by bsharon »

Hi bud,
I have the same issue sometimes it stays reved high. And other times it doesn't
It also takes a long time for the engine to rev down like you are saying.
And I am just over my 36K mile bumper to bumper warrenty too.
The dealer allready reprogramed my ECU 3 times and it worked for like the first 100 yards after I left then came back. lol
they said that it is not the TPS, but they didn't want to just through parts in not knowing if they are really bad or not.
Some one told me that they had that problem and tried cleaning whatever and it didn't work.
They said they had a falty TPS sensor.
That didn't show up on the diagnostic port. so I havn't even bought a new one of those yet.
I plan on it I just have been real busy with my son.

So anyway anyone else have this stupid reving issue.

I have the same problem too, it is very annoying. Seems to be worse when the weather is hot.

Well what the heck. lol
If all of us are having this issue, when are we gonna fix it.?
Mine started doing it wicked bad last night.
My engine was reving up on its own and would not come down in revs either.
I had to turn the car off at one point.
Then turn it on and pop the gear into second (i have Manual) to get it to go back down.
I am getting sick of this issue and I hate it.
I think we all need help for someone
But Who?????
the dealer hasn't done crap for me about this issue

Yah it is a really annoying problem, and my dealer said they know nothing about it too. They told me to bring it in to them when its happening, but thats almost impossible because it is so random. I know I heard something about this problem before and that it was an issue with the ECU, but my dealer won't do anything even when I told them that.

no solution, but here's my story...

i had this exact same problem about 3 weeks ago. i was taking my mother to the shops and all of the sudden she was asking my i'm revving high whilst shifting, and i showed her that my foot was off the accel pedal... my engine revved to over 3000 rpm (just short of 4000 rpm) on its own. to stop it all i did was floor it a couple of times in lower gears (and did a lil 1/2 mile straight line sprint) and it stopped.

occasionally i get high revving again when starting, it revs to just over 2000 rpm for about 3 secs, then drops slowly.

i have to admit, it is quite annoying when the engine decides to get all VTEC rev happy without you being able to hav ur say in the show...
