I have an answer for you with a few pictures as well. Check out this link.

I don't really go into too much detail at the end of the second page, unfortunately I couldn't get any picutures. Thing is, if you want more power out of your stock airbox, enlarge the hole that goes into it. For even more consistant power, use a 6" dryer tube up from the passenger foglight hole into the bottom of the airbox... well to the opening in the fender actually not the airbox. The gap will allow underhood air to get through if you are going through a deep puddle.

Cold air intake

Put the filter right in front of the foglight hole.

I've never had any problems with water. You should be fine just as long as you don't submerge ur car in water

^^ You should leave your manifold heat sheild on too. It keeps the heat in the exhaust manifold for better flow (less dense air flows faster) and keeps the heat off of the radiator and off of the intake. No offense to the poster above.

Yeah, thanks Mike, I'm getting it polished at the moment then it's going back on.

Off topic...
well sorta on topic...

Do you get an oily smell with the PCV venting like that? I had this setup on my old Hyundai Elantra GLS and I had to un-do it cause I could not stand the smell.

well I dunno about any smells but it certainly made a mess. I have since vented it back into the intake until I get a catch can for it.
