High Tension Wires

Post by jaimec »

Hello

My wife uses a 95 Daewoo Racer and it's been with us for sometime now. She inherited it from her grandmother so basically the car has a lot of sentimental value to her. Now, my problem is that it is so difficult for me to get the car runing properly. A couple of months ago I had the DISTRIBUTOR assembly replaced as it was not running. And so now I have it running but I've got a serious case of misfiring going on, I had the plugs replaced as they were busted and thought it'd be good to go but still nothing. And then yesterday as I was looking under the hood i noticed a tapping sound next to the high tension wires and to my surprise i got electrocuted when I tried to touch it :? . I turned the car off and checked the wires to see if there were any tears that would be the cause of my getting electrocuted. There wasn't any and when I started the car it seemed like it was running new again, just like when we got it. And then the tapping sound was again audible and then it started to misfire. I tried to touch it again and felt a little jolt of electricity AGAIN! :?

Dumb question: Do I need to replace the high tension wires? If so, are there any upgrades available for it? Also I wouldn't know which the equivalent of the racer is anywhere else in the world.

Would greatly appreciate feedback. :D

I would assume that the tapping sound you're hearing would be the spark grounding out on the engine somewhere. I would try running the car again at night time, and follow the sound and look for a spark. This might help you track down your grounding problem. The spark escaping before it makes it to the spark plug would most likely be the cause of the misfires as well.

+1

the spark leaking got a tapping sound indeed and you can't locate those leaks unless it is dark as you won't be able to see the leaks by just visually inspecting the leads.

i recommend replacing the leads and i recon the misfire and tapping sounds will go away.

running the car at night would be a problem for me because now it doesn't start at all. am getting really frustrated with it. changing the leads was something i should've done when we acquired the car but what kept me from changing them was that i wanted to look for performance upgrades like Splitfire or Hurricane. Thing is are they compatible? Being in a country where hondas, toyotas and nissans dominate the roads , there aren't many people who can help me when it comes to tuning our Daewoo. So, when I found this forum I just had to get listed. :D

It started when it would have something like epileptic seizures while running a couple of months ago. I took to accredited Daewoo mechanics and they said to change the fuel pump. They pulled they fuel pump from the tank and showed me the filter bag was torn. That apparently was the cause of the "epileptic" seizures and so I replced it myself to save on expenses (this iloved about the racer, everything was like snap-on :D). I tried starting the car but it still wouldn't start. I then looked for another mechanic who was pretty good although he wasn't an expert on Daewoos. His findings were a busted distributor assembly and pretty burnt out plugs. I thought that he was THE man. A few days of listening to it "purr" satisfied me as I made my wife a happy woman, like i said she adores the car.

Anyway, I'm gonna go and try to look for performance leads for it.

Thanks for the help! Greatly appreciated!

i recently got some of the accel 8mm wires that you cut to your desired leinthh, they worked good. only thing is i had to use the oem boots on the coil pack side, but they were easy to make and work GREAT!

i dont see why you couldnt use them for your 1.5 but im not sure about what car they are for. i got the accel kit part number 4040, the coil side connectors were a bit too big but i just bent them to fit correctly. and if you get them you actually get two sets of wires since our engines only need half of what a v8 would use!
