Engine Shaking out of control!! PLEASE HELP!

Post by uhaulman114 »

Yesterday, my wife turned on her 2002 laganza (60,000 mi) and the engine started shaking really bad... the check engine light started flashing. I thought it could be a spark plug, so i replaced all of them. But that wasn't the problem... please let me know if you have ever encoutered this before!!! or if you have any other suggestions.

got CEL ----> get it scanned and tell us he code so we can help, a flashing CEL is not a good sign so i suggest you scan it as soon as you can.

Most likely a faulty coil or injector problem. Shouldn't be too bad of a fix.

I'm going to put my money on the injectors. I think they're all gummed up and squirting rather then spraying.

Could be one of the end cylinders has gone, eg. head gasket, so maybe the engine is rocking because of the off-centre piston throws.

*shrug*

For your sake, I sure as hell hope not.

Well, i drove it to autozone, and on the way there, it was totally fine. But i got the codes pulled anyway, and one was for the 2nd piston misfire, one was for the camshaft position sensor, and one was for some sort of low voltage... it drove home okay, so i'm just waiting to see what happens...

Well... I know the cam position sensor reporting a low output is very common... My Lanos does the same thing. Eventually I'll replace the sensor and all will be well with that again. As for the misfire... you're going to have to wait for someone else to answer. I don't know much/enough about that to give you a good answer. :)

Well the misfire is being caused by a faulty coil, faulty leads, or a leaky injector. Get all checked out before making your next move.

i recon the lead to cyl. 2 is bad but that doesn't rule out a bad coil or sprk plug or and injector.

pop the hood at night while the engine is running and try to see flying sparks or tapping sounds... if you got this then it is leads.

if the leads are OK then switch the cyl. 2 lead with cyl. 3 lead on the coil pack... if the DTC shows misfire at cyl. 3 then the coil pack is faulty.

if the coil pack is good then switch cyl. 2 injector with any other injector... if the DTC follows the injector that used to be on cyl. 2 then this injector is bad... if not then you got bad spark plugs.
