I need a new muffler... What's the best muffler for my $$$
I need a new muffler for my 2000 Lanos 1.6 ... What would you guys recommend to get the best muffler for my money? Doesn't have to be the BEST muffler ever, just looking for a quality muffler that is well suited for my car that isn't TOO expensive.
Suggestions?

Well... I've been looking through mufflers most of this evening... still haven't decided what I should get.
I was looking at Flowmasters, but I saw some others that looked good too.
I was thinking that Flowmaster should have audio available on their website so you can get an feel for the tone of the muffler.

I agree. If you have already decided to put money into your car, then do it the right way. I think a cat-back exhaust would be your best option, because it would be hard to find a muffler that can fit the 1.75 inch piping of the Lanos. Not to mention that it would sound much better than an aftermarket muffler welded to stock exhaust piping.Audacityracing wrote:muffler... or cat-back exhaust?
Anyway, just food for thought.
No muffler is extremely expensive, but I think the best options for our car are Borla, Magnaflow, or Flowmaster.

I was thinking about that, but I've heard feedback that it sticks out a bit far and sounds too loud. What are your experiences with it?Audacityracing wrote:can't beat the value of the cat-back from evofusion ( www.teamsr.org ), that's what i run on my NA lanos
Okay... I do want to hear my car... and have it sound cool. But I don't want it to be too loud.
I would definitely like a performance boost or enhancement if possible, but really... it doesn't have to be race ready and it certainly shouldn't be REALLY LOUD.
I just can't justify the $300 for that exhaust at the moment. Something I will keep in mind for the future.

honestly... i love it. loudness is someting you have to deal with if you intend on making a car fast...
PROS:
- GREAT performance
- excellent gas mileage increase (if you stay off the throttle)
- weighs less than stock system with better tubing and less restriction
- decent noise (see cons)
- installation was EASY (took 45 minutes from the time the car left the ground to firing it back up)
CONS:
- lack of tip... the muffler needs a tip and needs to be tucked under more
- sticks out about 3" too far (see above about tip)
- loud... though if you have a short ram... all you hear is engine noise
- lack of options... if they gave choices on which muffler was on tehre it would be great
- took a while to settle/rub out... it still will sometimes rub on the axle and make a noise inside the car... but revving makes it stop and it is minimal
all in all... i give it a 9/10 because it's so convinient and does wonders for the lanos. if you had a lightweight flywheel... this would be PERFECT (even without the tip)
and on the car...
here is one for you people who want to see the new stance of the turbo race woo (it looks best on cloudy days  )

Of course... I'm not THAT worried about speed, or at least not top speed. Acceleration is pretty good already. And... It's my family car too. So I'm thinking something not TOO loud, but good for my horsepower and not too expensive. I just don't know that much about mufflers or most car parts really. I did once rebuild one Holly Double Pumper 4 Barrel Carbs... I polished the barrels to a mirror finish. I had to use parts from three different Hollys to do it.
So... I don't know yet, I need a new one, so... I'll go tomorrow and get that taken care of. Just thought if you guys knew something I should know, I'd be more prepared when I go out to buy one.
