your not leaking oil anywhere either right? b/c if you are it might be a gasket somwhere. all in all though i would just wait until you get it checked out by your dads friend. its really sounds like something to do with the oil but just where they should be able to find.

save a tree, eat a beaver.
trust me on this, your pump is gone. thats exactly what my nubi did before i blew a connecting rod just crusing at 3000 rpm.BlackleR wrote:I have a light that flickers which is like a lamp with water dripping from it
get that oil pump changed asap. also, check your oil level and make sure there is enough oil in the engine. what ever you do, do not race with that engine. you should also in vest in a oil pressure sensor so you know what you pump is doing. i am 98.999999999% sure it is your pump.
got drift?
from what i've seen...
$100 for a FULL gasket set

and then...
$65 dollars for a pump.
you could have it rebuilt ina few days for not much money. the gaskets come in a pack from ebay and the pump from gm-car-parts. i hope that you get it figured out soon. i hate car troubles

WOW things went so far away on this issue
first of all we can't make a bullit proof of what causes this ticking till we get an audio sample... please try to get one as i suggested this morning so we can judg better on your problem... it could be anything from a stiff alternator belt to shot tappies or faulty oil pump.
actualy the faulty pump theory is not that realistic... if it was an oil pump then the engine would have died eventually, the feedback i got from BlackleR reported that the car is running fine and idles smoothly... an engine with faulty oil pump will start to overheat fast, sputter, start to be noisy as hell then dies, this could be a faulty sending unit that is unrelated to the ticking.
whats with the warning light on the dash? how exactly does this lamp look like? try to get a shot with your mobile and post it here so we can tell you what it is... or even better pic the pic that matched the light you got:
Oil warning light:
Brakes warning light:
Temp warning light: (look at the logo on the top left
Check engine light (AKA CEL):
which one of those do you have??

i mean this as no offense to you sir, but you did not read his posts fully. he says the check engine light and the oil light (lamp with a drop coming from it) are the ones on. also, a fulaty oil pump does not mean a totally dead one, where as the blades can be damaged or sludge can be hindering the flow of oil which would certainly cause the symptopms he mentioned.
long and short, ticking associated with dohc engines is 99times/100 found to be an oil related issue and is usually the tappets. seeing as how the oil light is on, it points directly at the oil pump.

the point is i am contacting the guy on MSN and he gave me more feedback on this which gave me the confidence to say it is an oil pressure sending unit problem than a real oil pressure problem.
he drove the car fast in the morning (with two girls) and it was running fine, picking up speed nicly and working very well indeed, oil light only comes if he hits a bump (physical change to the car's position on the road rather than mechanical load) and the lamp never comes on at idle where the pump works at its lowest speed.
the sound he discribed sounded more like my old belts sounded... he actually simulated the sound with his mouth and i don't think they are tappies, also tappies will be most loud at startup... his sound appears after some period of engine operation.
i still can't make a solid diagnosis without an audio sample.

The oil light and engine light are always on, but i noticed when i go over a bump the oil light flickers, so i just thought the the like computer is messed up or somthing cos it runs well and like hitting a pot hole will make the oil light flicker, but ye the ticking only comes on when ive been driving for a while and gets louder n louder so i drive slow, sometimes when im accelerating the ticking isnt there, sometimes it is there, but its always there when i reach about 3k revz.
you got to get it checked soon... things are not looking that great after that last update.

could be piston slap or the rodsBlackleR wrote:Well guys im quite upset about my car, i think its dieing, instead of a ticking noise its more of a clunk noise, and the more i drive it the worse it gets. But if i dont drive it for a few hours u can hardly hear it. The reason I am upset is because this guy who knows alot about cars said that it sounds like the engine is on its way out.
but when the rods r bad it doesnt stop
with my car found out it could be piston slap because the sound doesnt stay plus when u dump motor oil into the crankcase the noise stops for seconds then comes back
*UPDATE*
1. Got into my car, started it, couldnt hear ticking. Went on a dual carriage way doing 60 fine, light ticking started.
2. After about 5 mins of on the dual carriageway ticking gets quite loud.
3. I come to a roundabout slow down, ticking is very very loud.
4. I start going up a hill, in highest gear possible so that ticking isnt as fast about 1 mile from garage seems ok.
5. Then out of no where DEAD. The car just died, i tried to start it, doesnt even sound like its trying to start, sort of like when u got a dead battery but not the same.
My car may possibly be going to Da Woo heaven in da skys
