Leganza whistling sound.

Post by kroz123 »

Hey guys,

A friend of mine has a Leganza and a whistling sound coming around the belt or maybe the pulleys.

Whenever he steps on the gas the whistling sound comes louder and louder.

What can it be?

Hope you guys can help.

how much miles does he have on the belts?
are the belts tensioned correctly?

for the time beeing try putting some greas on the belt(s)... if the sound goes away then his belts are too old or wrongly tensioned.

Won't grease damage the belts?

but when the car's idling it doesn't sound at all.

Perhaps he's got turbo charger and doesn't even know about it.

at idle the load on the belt is at its minimum... what happens when you suddenly rev up the engine from idle?? i bet it screams like hell... right?

mine sounds almost airy... sorta like a bad alternator belt, but the timing belt has less than 500 miles on it  , maybe it just isn't broken in yet, but i greased it up nicely with lithium

in giagnosing by timing belt noise i ended up buying an A/C belt, alternator belt, tensioner, replaced alternator bearings and when all that didn't solve the problem i knew it was the timing belt itself... sprayed a little WD-40 on it and it went silent.

im not to sure about high stalls when it comes to lock up converters like what leganzas have, but transmission places would be a good place to start. The main problem with high stall torque converters is that they create alot of heat (you will need a trans cooler) and they arent good for fuel economy
