No sir. The laws of Physics are NEVER that simple. Some of the most powerful engines known to man have aluminium blocks. What kind of power do you want to extract?

the block will take way way way way way more than the internals will. worry about pistons, rods, and mains before the block

If this is your dream, then Audacity has it right. Worry about internal parts. If this is your dream then I would advise you to stop dreaming and start the ground work. Start saving up the money and start doing the research. PROPER research> Don't try to find a cheap way of doing things, it usually ends up causing problems either in solving problems or replacing parts. As I always say, there is NO such thing as free or cheap power. Do it properly once and be over with it.

Auto to manual? What for? The auto tranny in the Lanos is rated at a higher torque figure than the manual. It's good for 200lb-ft of torque. That said, not even the turbocharged C20LET from the Calibra/Cavalier/Vectra makes that amount of torque from the factory. I've seen heavily modified C20XEs that don't come up to that either (apparently as the power approaches 200hp the torque curve starts to flatten around 190lb-ft). So if you're worried about breaking the tranny, relax. You won't. GM built ya a good tranny...

Pardon me if I don't think that being stuck in city traffic with a fidgety clutch is fun...pain aside, I can do without the distraction.
