I bought a thermostat housing off of ebay and it doesn't have the small little hose that comes off of it like the yellow hose here in woohoos ride
what does this hose do and is it necessary to have it connected to the thermostat housing?
On one good note It is a complete metal housing, and I actually bought 2 of them because It showed the plastic oem one. So if it does work and anyone wants a metal thermostat then i will sell it to you for 30 plus shipping which is what I paid.
i'd love to have a metal one but not sure if that hose does matter or not. if you find out and it doesn't matter then i call dibs i'll even pay you extra for holding it.
where does the hose go?? if the metal one doesn't have a port for it then it is either a non important passage to something (TB heater or so) or it could be using another coolant source... just look for the other end of the small hose and tell us where it goes.
well unfortunately my car isn't here so I can't look for myself, it broke down and is at my friends house who is out on vacation..... I hope I can figure this out before tommorow because I need to know if I need to send it back or replace it!!!!!!
That hose goes to the TB heater. It is not necessary, but it will help. If you don't use it, your intake will run hotter than usual and you might feel a decrease in performance as all of your sensor will be warmer without the coolant to lower temperatures. However, you can totally run without it without any harm to the engine.

i am confused here... i thought the YB heater is used to keep the TB "warm" during cald weather rather than "cooling the TB under normal operational conditions... right??

That is what I thought to, but when I took my car to my mechanic when I had starter trouble, he told me to immediately replace the tubing as I had the TB bypassed. He said it could start a fire with all of the extra heat. Since our intake manifolds and throttlebodies are attached directly to our cylinder heads, the heat transfer is insane and heats up the TB quite a bit. I've noticed that since I removed the tubing, the TB did run hotter and now with the OEM tubing back, it runs a hell of a lot cooler.
