Diesel Lanos and 6cyl Lanos
I've been posting about the 2.0L and 2.2L engine swaps into the Lanos but in reality there are piles of other engine swaps available.
In Europe/UK there have been numerous guys who have stuffed an Opel 6 cylinder engine into their Astra/Kadette.
The 2.5L V6 engines (C25XE/X25XE) will fit in and some people will do a 3.0L conversion where they use the bottom end from the C30XE with the top end of the C25XE.
The 3.0L V6 conversion with a few modified parts will make 245hp but it's heavier than the 2.0L 4cyl so it's a toss up as to which one is better.
Of course you could go crazy and do a 3.0L V6 turbo build up.... which would make some unreal power.... but that would cost a pile since it would involve a bunch of custom work (and I'm not sure how you would fit a turbo in there.... since the V6 swap makes things pretty tight as it is)
There are piles of Diesels available for the Astra/Kadette so you could do a conversion if your interested in saving some money by getting better mileage with cheaper fuel.
I'm not that familiar with the Diesel Astra's but I think the most common motor was a 1.7L Isuzu GM turbo diesel.
There are a lots of different diesels that would fit but some are better than others.
You can also use vegtable oil with your diesel ( 50/50 ) to cut down on fuel costs..... the only problem is that your car will smell like a McDonalds restaurant all day long

This engine, is actually available in North America... The C25XE (2.5L V6), found in...Cadillac Catera, also known as Opel Omega
Here as some pics of a V6 Kadett....which engine bay is identical to the one of Lanos.
Catera motor does have a different intake manifold than the one on the photo, but that should be easily attainable via eBay.
Now...who is going to be the first one to do such conversion here???
Tom

Ya.... that's what I thought as well...tango wrote:Catera used the C30XE, the 3.0L 24V V6.
If I remember correctly the 3.0L was also found in the older Saturn LS, Saturn Vue and Saab 9000.
The newer ones use the 3.5L V6... but I don't know if it's compatible.
I was thinking that the 2.5L was found in the older mid nineties Saab 900 vehicles but I could be wrong. ( I was thinking it had the X25XE )
Well... thanks to the Migweb.co.uk forum I found an answer...
Omega Haynes manual covers the X25XE which is similar. Uses different inlet manifolds and gearbox, but all wiring is covered and the main block of the engine.
"Alternatively, you can get a copy of the new Saab 900 (95) Haynes manual which uses the very same fwd C25XE in their cars. This uses all the same main engine componentry and the engine is identical."

I think the CTS came with the 3.2L V6.
Could you put the CTS-V engine in there?
Absolutely YES.... but it would probably cost you as much as a new CTS-V
I remember a guy who dropped in a Big Block Chev V8 into a Volkswagen Bettle ( 1967 ).... it was a mid engine design where the engine was right behind the drivers seat.... they had to extend the frame of the beetle by about 4" to make it work.
The entire subframe was tubular.... the guy spent crazy amounts of money on the car.... the rear windows were tinted so you really couldn't tell what was in there.
The extra 4" of length made it look slightly off.... and as soon as the guy took off you realized that it was something special.
I don't know what happened to that car but it was the ultimate sleeper.
If you put a CTS-V into a Lanos it would be incredible.

Power comes from a 200-hp 3.0-litre V-6 that makes 192 lbs.ft. of torque in the middle of the rev range (3,600 rpm),
That's what I found out about the engine. I don't think the 4cyl tranny would hold up long to that engine. I wonder how much that engine weighes compared to the 1.6 or the 2.0?
