Gas mileage...

Post by scarr »

I've got the 1.6L Lanos and pretty much since around 6 months after I bought it, I've noticed that I get horrible gas mileage, which I've not been able to figure out. (It's been 2.5 years since I bought it) Getting around 18-22 MPG.

Anyways, here's info that I've gathered.
1) I always floor it (contributes alot I think)
2) I've never checked the fuel pump.
3) I don't think injectors have ever been cleaned.

I get 36 MPG on the highway and about 30 MPG in the city with some highway. I do have a CAI and an exhaust. I measured it with shifting in the range of 3-4k rpms.

You are quite right, it is your driving techniques that are negatively affecting your gas mileage. When the Lanos 1.6L reaches high RPM, something in the ECU tells it to send tons of gas to the cylinders which causes you to get about 4-8 MPG when flooring it. However, if you drive consistently and cruise at about 2000 RMP and shift at about 2500, you will see the better side of about 30 MPG.
